Location: Buffalo Area, Buffalo, NY 14052
Duration: 12+ Months

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Sr. Product Engineer is an advanced engineering position involving a significant level of responsibility with latitude for unreview actions and decisions. The incumbent is assigned the more technically advanced products, usually starting three to four months before scheduled transfer from development to production.

Primary responsibilities of the Product Engineer are: effect a smooth product transfer from development into production, develop the design into a mature producible product, support production assembly/test start-up and maintain integrity of the product design. After transfer from Development Engineering, the Sr. Product Engineer has full design responsibility for the product.

Accountabilities
1. Monitors assembly/test of assigned products, identifies areas for improvements in producibility and quality and initiates the necessary changes to incorporate these improvements. Scope of improvement changes include assembly/test instructions, Assembly/test equipment, fixturing and design.
2. Reviews and approves design change proposals (permanent and deviation – temporary) with “after” review by the Manufacturing Manager. Sources of change proposals include: Manufacturing Engineering – producibility of machined parts; Material Review Board – “use as is”, scrap, rework decisions; Material and Process department – material/process spec changes; Vendor – quality/producibility improvements and Customer – product specification changes.
3. Develops and initiates design changes to resolve assembly/test problems, improve piece part producibility, and salvage deviate hardware as part of Material Review Board actions.
4. Provides technical direction and direct support for analysis of failed units returned by the customer and in-house rejections. The incumbent reviews and approves (sometimes also initiates) the Failure Analysis Report and in some instances, with clients Quality Assurance Engineer, formally presents the report to the customer.
5. With the Development Engineer, establishes corrective action for qualification test failures.

Results of the incumbents activities have a significant impact on production. It therefore, is the incumbents responsibility to inform the appropriate management and support functions of any event which impacts product schedule, product quality or status of shipped hardware. Typically, this includes: Production Control – loss or delay of piece parts due to redesign or Material Review Board action; Sales – potential problems with shipped hardware or schedule slip, Management – problems effecting costs, schedule slip, quality.

In summary, during the transfer phase of a program, into production, the incumbent is responsible for establishing a smooth transition from development into production assembly and test. Also, the incumbent must become thoroughly familiar with all design and operating features of the product so as to capably assume design responsibility.
• BS Degree in Electrical of Mechanical Engineering
• 5-7 years of experience with comparable technology
• Experience managing a budget
• Experience interacting with customers
• Experience with technical presentations
