Manufacturing Quality Engineer

Description:
This position is responsible for providing leadership and management of the quality function in accordance with all applicable company, regulatory and U.S. Government regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as for ensuring that quality program policies, plans, standards and requirements are met. Direct daily Quality staff functions such as Receiving Inspection, QE, MRB, Inspection & Testing to support location production. Functional management representative responsible for compliance of products and processes used by the location internally (& possibly externally) in the production of aerospace products. Act as the Voice of the Customer within the location. A functional leadership role in product and process compliance to ensure safe and reliable products. The candidate will be a key internal consultant to site leadership on all Quality matters.

The essential functions of this position are as follows:
• Experience working within a matrix organization supporting both site and division initiatives
• Knowledge and experience promoting a Zero-Defect culture within a regulated industry
• Assure all quality requirements are adequately defined at all functional levels to permit appropriate quality planning and verification of compliance. Coordinate Quality activities at the site.
• Identify, develop and implement new methods of quality management and systems, and audit of existing systems to meet division initiatives, AS9100/ISO9001, Nadcap and other customer requirements.
• Monitor and ensure completion of all tasks required to maintain certification to AS9100, Nadcap and all airworthiness requirements
• Develop and maintain a data driven performance monitoring system for the site quality focused on execution and improvement
• Lead quality investigations resulting from product performance problems, customer complaints, audit requirements or product safety & integrity issues
• Train and coach team members and other employees in all aspects of Quality Control, Assurance and Improvement.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and colleagues to promote an understanding of contractual and quality requirements
• Participate in design reviews (including PDR, CDR)
• Provide quality-oriented leadership in achieving facility and divisional quality objectives. Interfaces with internal and external customers to provide comprehensive responses and technical assistance regarding quality systems and/or products.
• Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance activities for all purchased material, equipment, parts, and processing.
• Utilize automated systems where available to proactively plan, implement and track quality systems and processes.
• Maintain the highest degree of customer service, throughput, quality, cost reduction and people productivity.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job - five plus years applicable experience in a world-class manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts. Effective facilitation and coaching skills.
• Knowledge of and experience in Zero-Defect concepts, statistical improvement methods, and root cause corrective action development experience (8D, DMAIC, etc.)
• Managerial experience, with demonstrated ability to provide leadership and motivation to employees.
• 20% travel will be required.

Skills Required/Other Skills:
• Relevant Quality experience gained within an Aerospace Engineering or Manufacturing Environment, and proven knowledge of Quality processes
• Fluent with airworthiness requirements and standards per FAA/EASA
• Lead plant in Zero-Defect, mistake-proofing and detection improvement initiatives.
• Lead plant in APQP process including PFMEA and control plan development, review, and sustainment.
• Champion and sponsor Six Sigma, problem solving, and continuous improvement projects.
• Coach plant teams in effective customer complaint, problem solving, and verification activities.
• Lead plants in process stability and capability planning, analysis, and improvement.
• Lead and participate on High Performance Teams (HPT)
• Support, promote and participate on Lean implementation in throughout the plants value streams.
• Proven leadership experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong customer focus
• Strong influencer with the ability to drive a step change in approach to quality assurance
• Ability to build strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external customers
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for effectively engaging team members and stakeholders
• Lean Six Sigma GB/BB certification or equivalent experience preferred
