Manufacturing Engineer (Project Engineer)
Location: Mojave California (on-site)

Job Overview:
Belcan is looking for experienced, passionate, and accomplished manufacturing engineers to support a wide range of duties with the goal being to help establish and maintain a lean production environment. This includes, but is not limited to the equipment, tools, systems, and materials required to create an efficient, organized, and lean factory that fabricates propulsion systems. You will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing of various aerospace/structures subassemblies. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent manufacturing processes which focus on quality, repeatability and speed. The role is multifunctional with a general knowledge needed for composite fabrication and assembly processes, lay-up, fastening, bonding, non-destructive testing, fixtures and assembly tooling, flow-mapping, process documentation, and various other aerospace manufacturing processes, and in general serve as a direct feedback loop between design, quality and production departments.

Job Responsibilities:
* Coordinate, oversee, and assist in performing modifications, fabrication, and assembly of various spacecraft mechanical systems and structures (metallic and composite) according to engineering plans and blueprints
* Evaluate and recommend real-time shop-floor process improvements to achieve reductions in delivery time, assembled cost, and defects
* Read, interpret, create, and operationalize Engineering Orders (E.O.s), blueprints, process specifications, and Manufacturing Work Instructions (MWI)
* Train shop floor technicians on your identified best practices in manufacturing and quality
* Identify and drive process improvements in work-holding, assembly tooling, product flow, process methods and inspection techniques

Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
* 5 years+ of manufacturing engineering experience working in a complex, high quality, fast paced, but highly manual production environment
* Experience with composite fabrication and assembly processes
* Experience working on shop floor with technicians/operators in a hands-on environment
* Working knowledge of Jigs/Fixtures/Production Tooling, Routings, Work Instructions, Visual Aids, Process Mapping, Mistake-Proofing
* Familiarity with the use and implementation of design for manufacturing/assembly, design to cost, effective product lifecycle management, and product configuration management and control
* Strong team player and ability to work independently with excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100
* Must be a U.S. citizen or national or U.S. permanent resident

Desired Skills & Experience:
* Knowledge of or certifications in Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing philosophies and tools
* Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing philosophies
* A strong understanding of the importance of FOD control and tool control
* Experience with manufacturing-based ERP systems a plus
