PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking a Construction Professional in Luling, LA

Position Summary: 
  • The Mechanical Construction Coordinator is a critical role in the Engineering and Construction Team and a core part of the team’s success. This position will be responsible for working with the Site Engineering and Construction Team to support Engineering, Project Controls and Construction across the Luling site in the execution of capital and expense projects.
  • The focus of this position will be the responsibility for performing all aspects of construction management for moderately complex engineering assignments. This work will be performed under minimal supervision.
  • This role involves working on the project owner’s behalf to review, integrate, and make recommendations regarding contractor schedules to aid in keeping the project on track.
  • Additional responsibilities will include routine and special project work that involves the retrieval, preparation, processing, manipulation and management of data.
  • The ability to adapt to frequent and rapid change, work in high pressure situations and to utilize skill and judgment to solve problems is required.
  • Experience with MS project is important as schedules will be maintained in that environment.
  • Estimation ability of capital projects to a +/- 30% accuracy is considered a plus.

Job Duties: 

  • Extensive knowledge of construction safety requirements, with a commitment to a zero accidents environment. Ability to ensure contractor’s activities are planned and executed with safety first.
  • Familiarity with and utilizing the Luling Engineering and Construction Department’s standards.
  • Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a task.
  • Technical contractual activities on one or more projects of various sizes in parallel.
  • Promoting continued relationships with contractors and all personnel.
  • Participating in field construction efforts, design phase services and all subcontracting as well as participating in all major technical, cost, scheduling and performance decisions.
  • Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly.
  • Providing on-site in field assistance during startup.
  • Coordinating work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead.
  • Consulting with design leaders to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.
  • Advising the senior engineer concerning design or scope changes, which have been identified.
  • Assist engineers with project design specifications, layouts, feasibility and constructability.
  • Assist in the development of construction bid packages for on site or external contractors.
  • Interface with project engineers and contractors on assigned projects to control/manage project cost and schedule. Assist engineering in reconciling cost deviations.
  • Able to develop basic project schedules with tracking ability.
  • Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for input.
  • Reviewing construction specifications.
  • Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Must possess the ability to read, interpret and redlines documents such as structural steel drawings, foundation drawings, P&IDs, etc.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Deep working knowledge of API, ASME, AWS, and ASTM codes and regulations
  • Deep understanding of welding types, correct uses and quality of finished products
  • Deep understanding of coatings and the correct preparation and application
  • Deep understanding of lifting and rigging
  • Deep understanding of pipe types, fitting, and installation
  • Ability to lead small teams in parallel to deliver on commitments.
  • Knowledge and application of company business standards and good practices.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the function of all engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes.
  • Ability to manage  Contractor relationships in complex situations.
  • Ability to relate easily to others in the business community such as suppliers, contractors, and employees.
  • Communicates with plant design draftsmen in the execution of project design work.
  • Establishes proactive relationships with environmental, safety, and health personnel to ensure regulatory/corporate compliance.
  • Effectively communicates project direction to contractor supervision and across all crafts.
  • Train and support designated team members on construction coordination tasks as needed.
  • Coordinate with Construction Lead to develop construction and contract strategies for constructability of projects as it pertains to logistics and safety.
  • Promote Site and Area’s safety initiatives (Empart, BBS, Unit Compliance, etc.).

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Construction Science, Building Science or related field from an accredited university preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant industrial construction and administration experience in a chemical plant, refinery or other industry / service
  • Hand-on installation of piping and mechanical equipment is a must
  • Proficiency with MS Project and MS Office products
  • Provides construction execution support for project’s from $200K - $15MM+.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge and application of company business standards and good practices.
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly communicate expectations and requirements to team members.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.
