Position Overview:

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for performing fastener testing in a laboratory setting, recording and substantiating test results for catalogue entries, and assisting with the creation of standards and procedures for application specific use of fasteners tested.

As a Fastener Test Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully repeatable hardware test set-ups that will pave the way for fastener qualification, and flight worthiness. Throughout the fastener testing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize the testing set-ups and sequences, and improve the integrity of test data collected and reported. As an integral member of the fastener team, you will work to strengthen the feedback loop between design, procurement, build, and test departments and accelerate the pace of rocket assembly development and construction. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.

Core Responsibilities:
* Execute testing programs through a combination of hands-on lab work and acceptance testing procedures as well as data collection, analysis, and reporting.
* Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into repeatable fastener test methods by developing work instructions to clearly define the testing set up and testing process.
* Perform and record fastener test data as collected for later analysis.
* Analyze experimental data (i.e., torque-tension, torque angle, pre-load, clamp load, stall torque, rpm, dwell, reaction force, and time-based torque profile graphs) to determine joint, fastener, and assembly characteristics and author test reports based on project requirements.
* When non-conformances are identified, deploy recovery strategies, perform root cause analyses and manage corrective actions
* Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire set up and test process
* Conduct pre-ship reviews for major sub-assemblies and engines prior to movement between work centers and facilities, and hold post-ship debriefs to capture lessons learned
* Identify, develop, and deploy new testing methods (or refine existing) to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize test schedule, while maintaining data integrity.
* Interface with fastener test leadership and other stakeholders as results and reports are tabulated.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, Electrical, or Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
* Three to 10+ years of experience in manufacturing / industrial setting
* Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing, drawing interrogation and translation to test control documents, GD&T.
* Basic knowledge of fastener load testing set-ups using axial and radial force loading machines, strain-gauges, profile monitors, bolt length measurement.
* Basic machine shop and fixture design skills.
* Strong intuition and judgement when faced with ambiguity and the need to make high velocity decisions
* Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
* Applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent resident (current Green Card holder)
* Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card) due to the nature of the work

Desired skills:
* Fastener design background.
* Fastener test standards familiarity such as ASTM or IFI.
* Knowledge of Atlas-Copco fastener torque installation devices and controllers.
* Fastener manufacturing experience a plus.
