Flight Test Operations Manager

Description:
The Flight Test Operations Manager is responsible for managing the performance of the Flight Operations group that consists of Experimental Test Pilots, Flight Test Engineers and Ground Operations, Flight Safety, and Dispatch. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment in matters of significance.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the Flight Operations Group to ensure goals and objectives (i.e. metrics) are met or exceeded, productivity levels are high and the needs of customers are met or exceeded.
Oversee Flight Test Planning for Flight Test Card Preparation, Hazard Analysis and Risk Mitigation.
Control Operation planning and daily test execution.
Manage the Flight Test Package Preparation for each aircraft.
Responsible for hiring, managing, developing and motivating a team of direct reports. Foster a safe, goal-oriented, accountable work environment within the Group.
Responsible for proactively and timely communicating information to the Group and out to the rest of the organization. Facilitate regular Group meetings. Participate in all-employee meetings. Attend and participate in various management meetings as required.
Act as a role model within the organization. Lead by example. Build the companys image by collaborating with customers, vendors, other managers/leads as well as employees. Comply with and support company policies, procedures and practices. Enforce respectful and ethical business practices. Maintain high quality standards.
May be required to fly, on an occasional basis, as an Experimental Test Pilot, Flight Test Engineer, or Test Conductor, or perform the role of Test Director in the Telemetry Room.
Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and mentor for Group Members within the Flight Operations discipline.
Proactively identify and properly address safety issues. Act as a champion of safety for the organization.
Ensure compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations.
Engineering
Complete Engineering work as needed.
Complete tasks and projects as assigned by manager.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong knowledge of OEM and military Flight Test operations to include envelope expansion and certification of new clean sheet aircraft design.
Education:

Bachelors Degree in an Engineering,
Test Pilot School Graduate (pilot or FTE) or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience:

Ten (10) plus years of experience in an appropriate Engineering discipline.
Three (3) years of experience directing the work of multiple Engineers.
1,000 hours of Flight Test, either as a test pilot, or 500 hours as an FTE or Test Conductor.
