Design Engineer II

Description:
Design Engineer II for an opening in Canoga Park, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position is for a development engineer in support of development of rocket engine combustion devices hardware (injectors, combustion chambers, nozzles, ignitors). Responsibilities include design support, trade studies, hardware development, specification preparation and release, fabrication support, test planning, vendor/supplier integration and coordination.
Supports combustion devices hardware through the entire product life cycle. Analyzes and verifies product design and performance for adequacy and reliability. Supports investigation and resolution of hardware and process anomalies and issues identified by preventative action/corrective action boards or safety initiative activities. Interfaces with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions to meet group, organization, and company objectives.
Under general supervision and following established policies, performs professional engineering assignments requiring full use and application of standard engineering principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Performs work which involves conventional types of studies, investigations, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features. Independently evaluates, selects and applies engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
Assignments typically have specified objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. May make presentations to small audiences.
Selects applicable analytical data from previous products, determines the technical principles involved, mathematically defines the problem and computes the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs, and requirements of other portions of the product. May assign work to and direct less senior engineers and support personnel as required.

Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.
Erroneous decisions or recommendations, or failure to get results may cause delays in project schedules and result in the allocation of more resources. Contacts are primarily intra-organizational. May also be involved in interfacing with other organizations. Outside customer contacts would be infrequent and on routine matters.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should have hands on mechanical experience. This position will be setting up lab experiments and managing data.
General engineering/science background; Understanding and use of analytical, design or process procedures pertinent to the particular field of engineering. Knowledge of statistical methods. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and specifications; Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; May require the use of engineering test equipment, CAD, and/or various computer systems. Ability to operate effectively in a team environment.

EDUCATION:
Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline/science and two years directly related experience as an associate engineer or equivalent combination of education and experience.
