Senior Mechanical Engineer- Support in Production (ESIP)

PDS Tech, Inc is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, in York, PA.
Seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer- Support in Production (ESIP) for its M109 Artillery Combat Vehicles. This position is located in York, PA
  • This position requires good technical writing skills which address issues that arise on the production floor, generating a good root cause analysis and corrective action plan, the engineer must also be able to interface between design, quality, manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Experience in machining and fabrication, weld, assembly along with a good working knowledge of current manufacturing processes and electrical systems is required.
  • The applicant will need to become familiar with weld codes and processes.
  • Experience working with armor steel and armor aluminum and along with experience working with military ground vehicles is a plus.
  • This position will require working with military specifications and supporting FEA findings and conclusions. CREO experience is preferred, but any 3D model experience will be considered.
  • This position requires that technical outcomes are consistent with established engineering principles and practices and that customer and company technical, system, performance, and quality requirements are met.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic engineering evaluations. Ensures tasks meet cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory, principles, techniques, and practices to a limited portion of atechnical project.
  • Develops and writes technical documentation, support revisions to existing documentation, and provides input to technicalpapers or presentations.
  • Performs basic technical analysis, calculations, and evaluation of results using specialized equipment and/or by computerprograms.
  • Analyzes and interprets design specifications, drawings, documentation, models, and/or test results to ensure technicaldesigns comply with applicable engineering standards, military specifications and product requirements.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with customers to solve technical problems and implement solutions oflimited complexity
  • Acquires and maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering discipline(s), industry practices, trends, andapplications.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety policies and rules
  • Duties include providing Engineering Support to Items in Production (ESIP) for: Transition of new design to production,resolving issues encountered in the build process. Investigation and root-cause analysis of design issues arising duringproduction and developing the associated change documentation to resolve design issue.
  • Work closely with a team of design engineers and other specialty engineers to resolve design issues that span such areasas structures, ballistics, mechanical, and logistics.
  • Work closely with Production, Floor Support, Quality, and Procurement to identify root cause of various production andprocurement issues and appropriate path forward.
  • Prepare white papers, and Variance documentation in response to production issues to support vehicle sales.
  • This position may require daily periods of on-floor support, walking between many locations throughout the day, andclimbing in/on the vehicles to assess issues as well as periods in an office documenting findings and creating andprocessing associated documentation. 

Skills/ Experience Required :
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a relevant technical field of specialization.
  • Familiarity with current computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to create/maintain large Excel spreadsheets.
  • Ability to solve technical design and development problems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with customers to solve technical problems.
  • Demonstrated self-starter, who requires minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • 4+ Years 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years’ experience or equivalent 

Skills Preferred :

  • Proven technical troubleshooting skills
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to proactively coordinate multiple entities to achieve final deliverable
  • Familiarity with relevant military and commercial design standards.
  • Familiarity with CREO.
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing ASME Y14.5-2009.
