Test Engineer

Description:
Candidate will research specific rocket functionality in the areas of avionics and electrical systems and develop a detailed understanding of how the functionality is intended to work based on specifications and drawings. Develop an approach to drive the necessary testing through the use of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) which connects to the core stage rocket through a series of external interfaces, and uses simulated capability to drive the interfaces and then collects responses and data from the vehicle for analysis and verification. The EGSE provides a scripting interface in XML and the test engineer will need to become proficient with that scripting capability to be able to effectively test the vehicle. In that capacity, prior experience with test scripting and XML and/or other software experience would be considered to be a major asset in selecting the proper candidate. The test engineer will be responsible for the development of his own scripts and for defining the custom displays required on the EGSE for test execution. Required to dry run and demonstrate that his procedures, scripts and displays successfully execute in both our Avionics Integration Lab and the NASA Systems Integration Laboratory. Candidate must be able to handle export controlled data and perform NASA safety sensitive functions.
Required: Candidate must have prior experience working with rocket systems, propulsion and hydraulic systems, space systems, avionics systems, and performing functional and/or acceptance test. Experience with messaging standards such as 1553, RS422, RS485, IRIG and Ethernet is desirable.

Test Engineer Level III – Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, with 5 years of experience, OR Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with 3 years of experience.
Test Engineer Level IV – Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, with 10 years of experience, OR Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with 7 years of experience. This is a non-management, engineering position.
