Software Engineer

Description:
Candidates for this position use and apply extensive advanced software quality practices, principles, theories, concepts and techniques associated with the evaluation of supplied and ship board software, firmware and configurable logic developed for embedded and networked multi-processor systems designed to support ship based network and compute services supporting fleet assets. Provides solutions to complex technical software integration problems using established engineering practices. Works as a self starter. Follows and recommends changes to processes and procedures when poor performance is identified. Reviews software products and processes for appropriate performance to contract requirements, software directives and reviews work practices for adequacy. Provides guidance both to project staff and cross business teams as required. Guides the successful completion of program quality assessments and milestone reviews and may function in a software quality guide role for some efforts. Interacts with senior product development and test personnel through both written and verbal communication. Has extensive knowledge of emerging software quality technologies including information assurance and code quality analysis through the use of tools. Conducts and documents supplier and ship board installations of engineering materials related to the design and release of software artifacts. Supports integration lab and on ship integration of advanced software products and services, and influences the successful completion of supported programs and projects. Ultimately you will help to ensure programs meet customer objectives for Mission Assurance by working closely with other Cross Business Teams (CBTs), to affect rapid closure of issues utilizing analytical capabilities and communication skills. Additional Job Details: Desired Experience, Knowledge, and/or Skills: The Quality Program Lead - QPL is responsible for supporting the offsite implementation of an effective Systems and Software Quality program designed to minimize development risk and ensure technically correct work products. Responsible tasks include, but not limited to, analysis of software requirements, understanding information assurance requirements, guiding peer review of software and systems engineering artifacts (source code, design artifacts, test plans and procedures), performing independent assessments of supplier software development process goals and objectives and approving supplier software content and services and at times witnessing supplier acceptance testing and at times conducting software supplier configuration audits and verifying associated deliverable documents such as supplier software version description documents (SVDD) or equivalent. Required Skills: • Minimum 8+ years of direct related experience in Software Quality Engineering or Software Engineering • Programming experience in UNIX/LINUX, Windows environments using Java, C, C++, or C# • Knowledgeable of Software Processes; the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI), the software lifecycle; requirements, design, implementation, and software testing • Experience with the development and analysis of System/Software requirements • Experience in supporting Agile/Scrum software development and Rational Team Concert tools • Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Must be able to effectively express ideas in written and verbal form • Demonstrated problem solving, and organizational, planning, multitasking and interpersonal skills required • Experience in holding a lead role on a project in a quality or engineering discipline • Experience in supporting a product based matrixed organization with multiple programs, in various stages of development and production • Experience in coordinating efforts across multiple programs, managing conflicting schedules and priorities • Experience in supporting multiple SW · Experience in AS9100C, AS9115 and ISO 9001:2008 requirements as well as software development guidance of IEEE/EIA/ISO12207 Standard for Information Technology – Software life cycle processes • Has an active DoD Secret security clearance · Desired Skills: · Working knowledge of a Requirements Management Tool such as DOORS, Rational Team Concert · Understanding of computer technologies, environments, and datacenters and their engineering integration into mission system design. · Ability to manage multiple tasks, positively influence team members, establish and maintain excellent customer relationships and deliver positive results. · Experience with real-time operating systems · Experience with COTS secure products · Knowledge in configuration management and control tools i.e. Rational ClearCase, ClearQuest, PDM, Defect Logger, iTracker • Required Education: • B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science or Mathematics
