Description:
Mechanical Engineer III – Ground Support Equipment
SUMMARY:
this Mid-level Mechanical Engineer will work in a team environment on all aspects of definition and development of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) for build, test and recurring operations of the Dream Chaser space vehicle. The candidate will work with the flight hardware design to define MGSE needs, act as the Point of Contact (POC) for specific MGSE, and provide direction and support to other team members with POC responsibility. Candidate will oversee suppliers for design, fabrication, and test, assisting the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Lead to manage cost, schedule, and risk, for all Dream Chaser related MGSE, ensuring that it meets the program requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and schematics
• Originate specifications, control documents, verification and validation plans, procedures, reports, or other documentation in support of design and development activities
• Work with other Engineers to implement operating procedures, resolve system issues and provide technical information
• Prepare material for, and conduct, periodic design reviews
• Ensure conformance of products with Engineering design and performance specifications
• Execute engineering design and development activities consistent with Customer quality, cost, and schedule requirements
• Conduct research that test and analyze the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems
• Estimate costs and submit bids for Engineering
• Initiate problem solving for new product designs and as well as existing products
• Select, initiate the procure process, install, checkout, and acceptance test hardware
• Support development of test plans and procedures, conduct of end item verification and validation
• Participate in design integration with requirements and industry standards

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Punctuality to work each day and prepared to work scheduled work hours
• Planning and execution of system field deployment, and sustained O&M field activities
• Ability to provide solutions to a wide range of technical problems
• Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related field with 6+ years of professional experience
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Experience developing Concept of Operations and developing Architecture/Design for ground support equipment
• Experience with mechanical design processes (preliminary and final design and with the design review process.)
• Experience with Engineering life cycle processes and procedures
• CAD experience in one or more of the following: SolidWorks 2014,NX 8.5, Creo 3.0
• Experience placing new equipment into service including development of validation and operation procedures
• Proficiency with PC based MS Office products such as Word, Visio and Excel
• Possess good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to rapidly work with minimal supervision on projects involving both small and large engineering teams
• Previous experience and skills in project definition, simulation, implementation, lab integration and test
• Familiar with System analysis (FEA, thermal, Acoustic, Center of Gravity and Environmental lighting, EMI/EMC)
• Familiar with Safety Hazard Analysis mitigation and Functional Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

DESIRED SKILLS:
• Experience in Hardware document control (WindChill)
• Experience with Non-conformance dispositioning
• Experience developing test plans and procedures
• Experience with technical management of suppliers (SOW and specification development)
• Experience with creating, managing and updating Bill of Materials
• Knowledge of component level environmental testing, Environmental test experience – Vibration, Shock Tests, Thermal, Humidity, Motion, dust and Water Protection, etc.
• Familiar working with rugged equipment
• Familiar with Manufacturing / product development processes (Work Orders, Quality Inspections, and Material Control etc.)
