Industrial Engineer

AKKA Technologies is currently looking to hire Industrial Engineer for its Casting Re-industrialization Project with their customer who operates worldwide in rail transport market.

  • To support current needs of casting re-industrialization activities, customer is anticipating developing some Product and Processes with Supplier.
  • Manage the update of existing drawings into 3D models with separate cast and machined. 
  • Take input from foundries and machine shops to improve manufacturability while maintaining current print requirements. 
  • Launch new patterns and verify casting and machining FAIs pass along with functional assembly check with customer's manufacturing team.
  • Approximately 300 part numbers are expected to be in the scope of this project.

Primary services to be provided

  • Manage co-engineering activities between CAD, foundry, machine shop to develop updated 3D models and prints and launch new casting patterns
  • Provide input to the CAD supplier regarding questions about drawings to create 3D models and prints by measuring existing parts or consulting with Engineering
  • Transfer foundry and machining requests to CAD supplier and verifies customer's engineering requirements are maintained while improving manufacturability
  • Coordinate and conduct engineering reviews of prints with relevant parties to reach agreement before tooling is launched
  • Work with Supplier Product Quality Development (SPQD) to apply the application of the DFQ process and ensure FAI Go at casting/machining levels
  • Schedule and perform fit/form/function check in assembly with customer's manufacturing to verify that new castings pass

Management, performance and reporting 

  • Informs Product Industrialization Manager (PIM) in charge of transfer activities, Sourcing, Industrial and Engineering / Projects Teams and entities about the issues
  • Track and report progress of castings in all stages until tool is commissioned
  • Reports activity, manages indicators (example visual management)

Key KPI’s:

  • Updated 3D models and prints of castings
  • Creating/updating Tool Request Forms
  • Tracking of casting/machining/assembly FAIs at suppliers and 3F (fit/form/function) tags
  • Change Requests submitted for print updates

Required Technical Skills
o    Mechanical engineering with industrialization background
       Machining operations and industrial flow

  • CNC milling, turning, grinding
  • Fixturing and tooling

 Special processes experiences 

  • Casting (investment and sand for iron, steel, brass, aluminum; die casting for aluminum)
  • Heat treatment 
  • Painting

o    Mechanical drawing reviews

  • 3D CAD experience (Solid works preferred)
  • Understanding of GD&T

o    Inspection experience

  • CMM relative to drawing
  • GD&T

Required Soft and behavioral skills

  • Leadership, result oriented and Customer focus
  • Capacity to work by influencing, convincing and motivating people without having direct authority (for suppliers, between Alstom department)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong engineering/manufacturing skillsets
  • Experience in supplier relationship and management
  • Organized, reactive, agile, strong communication skills
