Quality Assurance Specialist Engineer

Description:
Candidate needs to be familiar with the following processes:

-Nonconformance generation and closure process

-Cause and corrective action process

-A general understanding of machining, blueprints, measurement tools and build records, GD&T

-A general understanding of what quality engineering does

-Be available for 50% to 75% travel to White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico to support rocket engine testing for a week (or more) at a time

This individual will provide Quality Engineering support to the assigned product team spanning the life cycle of the program; including design, development, production, test, and supplier support. An understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and typical aerospace product assurance processes (dimensional inspection, NDT, source/receiving inspection, etc) is required.

Essential Job Functions

15% - Utilizes engineering background and expertise to communicate quality requirements to product team members, in-house inspection personnel, and suppliers. Communicates quality issues to program and process management.


20% - Reviews engineering drawings for inspectability. Works with inspection process experts to develop special inspection techniques where necessary. Assures that fabrication and inspection requirements defined in engineering drawings/specifications are appropriate for the design and comply with customer and company quality requirements.



15% - Participates in design reviews with customers. Presents the product inspection plan describing how hardware acceptance processes will assure compliance with design, customer, and company requirements.


20% - Provides a clear and concise flow down of product definition and quality requirements to suppliers. Works closely with Supply Management and Supplier Quality to coordinate/resolve supplier issues.


15% Reviews product nonconformances. Assure adequate nonconformance description and appropriate disposition. Handles and communicates deviations/nonconformances at different levels within the organization. Interfaces with the Material Review Board (MRB) to describe impact of nonconformance (schedule, cost, performance, etc.) and explain technical justification for the hardware disposition.



10% - Drives corrective and preventative action activity both in-house and at the supplier, and provides corrective action board support to manage timely and effective problem closure and recurrence control.



5% - Prepares comprehensive analyses, procedures, reports and presentations for both internal and external customers.

Skills:
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a close-knit team environment.
Valid driver’s license.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate discipline and 9 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
