Mechanical Engineer (7-10+ yrs exp)

Description:
This position will contribute to the design of precision optical systems and tooling.
Responsibilities include opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical design of aerospace flight components. Responsibilities include providing solutions to a variety of complex technical problems as assigned.

Role and Responsibilities:
Lead and direct opto-mechanical engineering on multiple projects through all phases of innovation and development
• Assume primary responsibility for the design, analysis, and documentation of opto-mechanical systems; these systems are typically deployed in an industrial or aerospace environment and may have significant electronic content
• Direct the activities of other Engineers and provide technical direction to other stakeholders including Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality as necessary
• Provide technical content for proposals, estimate and track mechanical design costs, create schedule estimates, and make presentations to customers and company management.
• Create system models, perform required analysis, and create detailed part and assembly drawings and associated parts lists, in accordance with ANSI Y14.5 and inhouse drawing standards.

Basic Qualifications:
• US Citizenship is required.
• This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of experience. In the absence of a degree 11 years of appropriate experience is required

Required Skills:
• Have a thorough understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles, theories, and applications
• Demonstrates a solid understanding of optics and opto-mechanical best practices and basic understanding of the other engineering disciplines
• Ability to use hand calculations for preliminary sizing and for FEA validation
• Able to analyze, problem solve, multi-task and meet deadlines
• Able to clearly describe results in oral presentations and written reports
• Results-oriented with strong personal drive and personal ownership in meeting commitments
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Operate independently with limited supervision
• Impeccable ethics; maintains a positive and professional working environment
• Strong CAD solid modeling experience with ANSI Y14.5 knowledge
• Proficient in CREO (Pro-E) and PDMLink or similar CAD tool

Preferred Skills:
• Advanced technical degree
• Finite Element Analysis using NASTRAN
