Surface Ship Navigation Systems Engineer
(US Citizenship Required*)
Pittsfield, MA

• Analyze, define, develop, and manage requirements including customer requirements
• Analyze function, performance, cost, risk, supportability, and effectiveness for subsystems and system elements
• Design, integrate, and test/verify systems
• Detail trade, validation, and interface definition studies of subsystem or system elements under supervision of lead systems engineer
• Create technical plans
• Define allocations to lower levels (elements and components)
• Develop and evaluate systems, networks and information systems to meet applicable governmental specifications
• Participate in Modeling and Simulation
• Research and analyze data to determine feasibility of design or application
• Support generation of technical engineering products via appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
• Independently determine proposed approach to solutions
• Contribute to the completion of programs, projects, and business objectives
• Plan and execute project tasks for activities described above
• Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills.
• Define processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility.
• Use good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
• Design a complete and complex framework, system or product.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses.
• Work under limited direction
• Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department and with project teams across the company
• Travel may be required (Approximately 25%)
• May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
• Resolve a diverse range of complex problems

• Required – active Secret clearance. Candidates without active clearance will not be considered.
• Recognizes various architectural patterns
• Fully proficient use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories as well as knowledge of other related disciplines
• Fully proficient with requirements management & system modeling tools
• Fully proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Written and verbal communications skills; can sell concepts and ideas; can communicate issues, impacts, and corrective actions and clearly report relevant information
• Creative thinker; can multi-task; takes initiative on assignments; exercises independent judgment; professionally executes projects with little direction
• Able to quickly grasp and apply new information and effectively handle complex assignments
• Prior Department of Defense and/or surface ship experience
• Experience with
o Navigation Systems; Inertial Navigation, Gyrocompasses, GPS, Echo sounders, etc.
o Certification Requirements (NAVCERT, ECDIS)
o Internal and External Change Processes
o Cable Block Diagrams, Wire Connection Lists, and other Drawing Types
o Requirements Development and Management
o Problem Report tracking
o IBM Rational tools such as DOORS and Change
o Agile
• Very strong technical writing, presentation, problem-solving, testing, and troubleshooting skills
• Very familiar with software development lifecycle and experience interfacing with software developers
• Very familiar with other shipboard systems such as Seaframe Control, Aviation, Infrastructure, etc.
*US Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's in Systems Engineering or a related field required (or equivalent experience) and 5+ years’ experience; or Master's and 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Preferred – Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering and 10+ years of related engineering experience.
