Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - RF/Power

Description:
Long term work opportunity with a fantastic highly technical company located in the Rochester NY area.

Responsible for innovating new solutions in the area of integrated RF power systems for semiconductor processing applications. The range of frequencies and power of interest are 2 to 200 MHz and 1 to 50 kW. Performs or directs the performance of complex engineering assignments involved in the research, design, and development of an overall project. Works independently, directing and coordinating the work of technical personnel engage in the compilation of engineering data, construction and testing of systems, designing component circuits, writing reports and test procedures. Position will be located in Rochester NY.

Responsibilities:
Design and productize leading edge, high efficiency RF power equipment for thin films processing in the 40kHz to 100MHz frequency range
Understands RF power amplifier and DC-DC power supply architectures
Develops system level specifications and architecture to meet internal and external customer requirement.
Develops trade-off studies related to cost, complexity, reliability, Design for Excellence (DFx), project timing
Develops Design Verification Testing (DVT) and Specification Compliance testing strategy, facilitates the execution of these plans and analyzes results to ensure products meet design goals
Demonstrates expert problem solving skills. Understands and facilitates fault tree analysis and FMEA (failure mode effects analysis) studies
Understands and prevents potential RF, controls, power supply interactions (system integration and mechanical packaging)
Designs fault handling scheme
Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering to identify DFX opportunities and Test Engineering to develop production system-level test strategy
Analyze design variability for statistical design margin in manufacturing
Plans and facilitates system-level design reviews and phase-gate exit reviews
Demonstrates proficiency in grounding, shielding, EMI
Comfortable with subassembly and system level integration/trouble-shooting
Required Skills:
MSEE or equivalent and >10 years of experience in RF or switch-mode power electronics
Thorough understanding of semiconductor processes and RF system impacts to such
Experience with circuit simulation tools (e.g. SPICE, Agilent ADS, Microwave Office, etc.)
Expertise in Matlab or other data processing tools
Good writing skills (specifications, test reports, engineering analyses, etc.)
Excellent organizational skills a must
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment with purchasing, manufacturing engineering, etc.
