Oversees construction activities of building system replacements and upgrades, new construction, and interior renovations. Job duties include reviewing design and construction drawings, conducting pre-construction meetings, contractor oversight, monitoring construction schedule, and coordinating construction activities with internal departments. This position also requires the person to have proper knowledge of building, mechanical, and electrical systems to plan projects in operational facilities to mitigate interruption to Company business activities during project implementation.
DAILY TASKS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS 1. Work with project team to develop scope for various Facilities projects. 2. Develop a construction estimate from the scope of work. The Project Engineer, alongside the Project Manager, must be able to manage the project while maintaining budget. 3. Attend design review meetings to provide input to architects and design consultants on existing conditions, as well as construction means and methods. 4. Review construction drawings for accuracy and completeness to minimize RFIs and added costs. 5. Conduct pre-construction meeting with design and construction teams to review construction drawings, plan project work schedules, review site logistics, discuss project implementation, and provide input on Company policies and procedures. 6. Assist the Project Manager in the review of the proposed Schedule of Values submitted by the contractor to ensure pay applications can be properly reviewed and approved. 7. Conduct a preliminary review of the submittals for compliance prior to distribution for review by others. 8. Monitor the Submittal Log maintained by the contractor for completeness and conformance with the project schedule. 9. Conduct daily site visits and attend inspections to ensure contractor is providing the appropriate management and quality control for conforming to construction drawings and Company Construction Specifications. 10. Periodically monitor the as-built drawings maintained by the contractor onsite to ensure they are kept current. 11. Coordinate building system impacts, equipment shut down procedures, RFIs and MOPs (Methods of Procedure) with Project Manager to gain approval to proceed with project tasks. 12. Conduct field quantity surveys to coordinate work progress with contractor pay applications. 13. Work with Project Manager to coordinate closeout activities Minimum requirement is Bachelor's degree. Preferred field of study: construction management, project management, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering. Bachelor's degree is a MUST. - 10 years of applicable experience in facilities design, construction field experience, and contractor oversight is a MUST. - Previous experience managing projects for a mechanical or electrical contractor is a plus.
