Electrical Engineer (Motor Design Management)

Description:
PDS Tech, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer to manage Motor Design in Windsor Locks, CT.

The ideal candidate will manage a team and provide direction development, design, and testing of electrical components, particularly motors and sensors for manned space applications. This will include extensive supplier technical management.

The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.

Project Engineering Supplier Designed Equipment (SDE) Integrated Product Development (IPD) Team Lead will provide continuous support of NASA’s vision to develop and expand science capabilities aboard the ORION Program for the next decade. Manned Space capabilities are enabled by the life support hardware and engineering services provided by the ORION program in Windsor Locks, CT.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the IPD teams consisting of Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Design, Supplier Quality, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Planners, and Purchasing to coordinate the manufacture, qualification, and delivery of various Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) components by working closely with the supply base to drive the design of these components by following the SDE Engineering Standard Work processes according to the approved budget and schedule.

Familiarity with Earned Value Management System (EVMS), DOORS, SAP, and UTAS Engineering Change System are a plus. The SDE IPD team lead will report directly to the Program Engineering Manager and Program Managers and will play a critical role in driving project execution while meeting both internal and external customer expectations.

Detailed coordination with the Program Office will be required in managing the suppliers and the IPD Team. Participation and preparation for monthly program and design reviews with Lockheed Martin are also required.

This position requires creation and delivery of technical presentations to management and customers.

Education / Certifications
•BA/BS degree in Science, Technology, or Engineering w/ 5+ years of experience is required - Graduate degree preferred.
•4+ years leading teams and managing projects

Experience/Qualifications
•Prior experience working with or managing multi-disciplinary teams in a fast paced environment
•Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
•Experience and familiarity with new product introduction and product life cycle from concept to qualification (preferably leading new supplier design and development efforts for motors, actuators, and sensors including various system integrations) Natural presence/comfortable presenting to internal and external customers
•Demonstrated command of RRCA methodology and tools
•Ability to bring team members together and work problems to resolution
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Proven planning, adaptability, organizational and negotiation skills for effective team management
•Ability to anticipate project risks and build contingency plans
•Manage hardware contracts from stages of proposal through delivery, including tracking procurement status, establishing engineering and operations efforts, and oversight of assembly and test progress.
•Interface with both internal operations and engineering functions to facilitate assembly, test, and delivery of hardware.
•Participate in weekly/monthly reviews with Lockheed customer to communicate status of contracts and schedule.
•Provide direction to IPT (Integrated Product Team) for actions on in-process hardware.
•Develop and manage program schedules to drive on-time contract deliveries.
•Participate in contract proposals, including BOE and BOM estimates.
•Provide quarterly sales support to Program Management through effective supplier invoicing plans and strategies
•Utilize Earned Value methodology to forecast program demands and track project completion.
•Process engineering changes to ensure high quality, conforming hardware is being received, built, and delivered to our customers
•Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
