Propulsion System Design Engineer

Description:
Location: Centennial, CO
Rate: DOE
Duration: 1 year contract
Overtime: Exempt

Job Description:
- This engineering function provides engineering design, systems integration, subcontract management, product technical support and anomaly resolution for the Propulsion fluids systems (cryogenic, non-cryogenic, hydraulics and pneumatics).
- Develops system and component designs and requirements to satisfy overall propulsion systems requirements.
- The position requires mechanical design capability as well as understanding dynamic, structural and fluids analysis concepts.
- Must have the capability to perform system integration and perform system level trade studies to optimize designs for manufacturing, producibility and performance.
- Generates engineering drawings as well as assembly and testing requirements.
- Provides direct support to the suppliers, the factory and the launch site to ensure production schedules are met, resolve anomalies and streamline operations to improve efficiency.
- When anomalies occur, provides causal analysis that leads to effective resolution and corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
- Reviews the as-built product (hardware and associated software) and product test data to certify that the final product configuration and performance meets requirements and is ready for test and/or flight. - Develops design improvements that reduce cost and risk and/or improve vehicle performance.


Basic Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university and 10+ years experience in dynamic testing field
- Familiar with mechanical design utilizing Unigraphics, ProE, or Solidworks
- Familiar with structural, fluids and/or dynamics analysis
- Goal oriented with an acute attention to detail
- A team player with the ability to adapt within a dynamic working environment
- Ability to work extended hours, off shifts and weekends
- Familiar with electro-dynamic shaker systems to include operational and maintenance requirements
- Familiar with impact shock systems to include resonant beam/air cannon
- Able to manage workflow and schedule of testing within the lab


Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in mechanical design utilizing Unigraphics, ProE, or Solidworks
- Experience in analysis (fluids, structural and dynamics)
- Experience in performing testing to include but not limited to, random vibration, force limited random vibration, sine on random vibration, modal identification, beam impact shock and shaker shock
- Experience in Signal processing, instrumentation, signal conditioning, data acquisition and vibration and shock fixture design
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
