MRB Stress Engineer

Description:
The MRB Stress Engineer reviews defects and establishes root cause, reviews dispositions to repair discrepant conditions using engineering principles and determines if a corrective action is required. The MRB Stress engineer performs structural analysis (detailed static strength, fatigue, damage tolerance, and Finite Element) in support of Liaison dispositions of all engineering defects, internal discrepancies, and aircraft non-conforming conditions (major and minor).

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs stress analysis of non-conforming products and repairs to ensure structural integrity is maintained, and documents analyses within the corporate Stress Task Assignment (STA) substantiation environment.
2. Resolves complex engineering problems related to the build of the aircraft.
3. Reviews defects and establishes root cause, reviews the proposed disposition/condition using engineering principles and determines if a corrective action is required.
4. Reviews Engineering documentation (analyses, drawings, test procedures, and discrepancy tags) to enable technicians to understand the documents and continue working.
5. Reviews, develops, and implements revised/new processes using current Quality initiatives and/or the latest NH Circle principles.
6. Provides an acceptable disposition of non-conformance of commercial aircraft structure encountered during Manufacturing/Assembly process and production, including reporting of failures, malfunctions, and defects.
7. Prepares reports for supervisors on various engineering activities and project status.
8. Checks and documents how to repair the discrepancy using engineering principles.
9. Assists in determining if defects are Engineering related or workmanship issues. Documents defect findings.
10. Provides technical support to engineering/design/manufacturing/customer service efforts as required.
11. Serves as a primary interface within the MRB stress group and across other engineering functions to ensure effective communication, coordination, and timely completion of projects and team milestones.
12. May supervise both lower to mid-level internal associates and external contingents within the MRB stress group.
13. Support production flight test and R&D as required.
14. Identify cost and weight savings ideas related to the build of the aircraft, assembly methods, part fabrication, or alternate hardware.
15. Provide support to suppliers as required.
16. Participate in project teams, design efforts, and CCB reviews as required.
17. May provide general analysis direction to other internal associates in the MRB stress group.
18. Some potential interface with other organizations, external vendors, and outside consultants may be required.
19. Detailed side engineering studies and outside group assist may be required.

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
1. Bachelor degree in Engineering or related field of study required, advanced degree preferred.
2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in an engineering required.
3. Aircraft industry experience is required.
4. Experience with DER work in a Structures engineering function desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Strong oral and written communication skills.

3. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
4. Detail oriented.
5. Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
6. Advanced understanding and demonstrated experience in detailed static strength stress analysis, fatigue analysis, fracture mechanics, finite element analysis, external and internal loads, materials science, and/or dynamics.
7. Experience with Six Sigma and/or NH Circle teams a plus.
8. Experience using NASTRAN/PATRAN/FEMAP/CATIA/Finite Element Modeling.
9. Advanced knowledge and background in structural concepts, Standard Repair Methods (SRM), composite systems, and aluminum structures.
10. Basic knowledge of CATIA V5 or other design tools
11. Basic familiarity with SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products) or other applications within a Production environment.
