Structural Design Engineer - 100% ONSITE

Description:
• JPC - 10720 - Structural Design Engineer - New Mexico
• Pay Rate: Up To $80-$85/HR
• Overtime: Potentially and when necessary
• Duration: 12 Months+

Must Haves:
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar from an accredited institution
• Experience with CATIA V5 and/or CATIA 3DX
• Experience with CATIA V5 CPD (Composite Part Design) and/or FiberSIM
The design engineer for the Eve Enhancement Project will support an important project for Virgin Galactic focused on improving the dispatch reliability of Mothership Eve. There are over 100 individual engineering projects that make up the Eve Enhancement Project. The design engineer will lead several individual projects at a time to ensure overall continuous progress on the greater project. A typical individual project will consist of the following start-to-finish steps:
1. Define the process flow steps and inputs required to complete the part design and complete the subsequent ER (Engineering Request)
2. Define the BOM (Bill of Material) as early as possible to provide Procurement an opportunity to make long-lead purchases
3. Coordinate with Stress to define required part sizing and material selection
4. Coordinate with VGMX (Virgin Galactic Maintenance) to understand installation requirements and limitations
5. Using CATIA V5 design the required part(s) taking into consideration inputs obtained in earlier steps
6. Solicit initial feedback from the IPT (Integrated Product Team) once the design is ready for preliminary review
7. Put part in Agile Workflow and walk approvers through part release. Expectation is release within 48 hours.
8. Circle back on the preliminary BOM and provide Procurement updates based on final part design
9. Either create the ER or coordinate with ME’s (Manufacturing Engineers) if available to complete the ER
10. Support Manufacturing with answers to any questions during part build
11. Support VGMX with answers to questions during part installation
12. Coordinate with the Project Engineer to document closure of the project

The skills required of the design engineer include:
1. CATIA V5 design experience. Specifically experience designing composite structures.
2. Experience coordinating with Stress - essentially be able to ‘talk stress’ and meet stress expectations by variations in the part design
3. Be physically capable of accessing the area of concern on vehicle to understand design constraints and answer questions during part installation

As a reminder, presence at Spaceport in New Mexico is required for this role, however IF someone has worked on previous Eve mods (with good performance) and is familiar with the vehicle, there may be some latitude for remote work.
