CAD Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract to Hire)

Description:
Work with engineers and drafters to analyze engineering design specifications and customer requirements. Participate in design of new products, support initial fabrication of new products, resolve design related manufacturing problems of mature products, initiate ECOs, incorporate drawing changes, and review drawings for completeness and accuracy.
Review customer requirements and specifications for applicable design elements

Layout assembly and sub-assemblies considering all design criteria
Model 3D parts and assemblies using CAD software
Coordinate with engineers, drafters and other personnel necessary to insure timely and correct design, preparation and release of drawings to support a project
Check and approve drafters' drawings; may also approve designs and completed drawings of other designers
Function as mechanical designer or design liaison for product group
Participate as requested in design reviews; may be member of various decision making boards involving design and manufacturing
Function as primary CAD and drafting focal point
Establish CAD drawing data base, monitor drafting workload and improve throughput
Train others in the use of CAD



Minimum Requirements:
5 years of experience as designer or equivalent
AA degree in technically-oriented discipline (Engineering Technology, Math, CAD, etc.), including 1 year college-level drafting or equivalent knowledge
Ability to use mathematics as acquired in two years of high school algebra, 1 year geometry and trigonometry, or equivalent knowledge
Ability to use SolidWorks, utilizing assembly configurations, part, assembly and sheet metal modeling techniques, set up standard assembly, part and drawing templates, dynamic linking of text information between the drawing and the models.
Ability to create stable 3D models with consistent Datum References.
Ability to do complex drafting per ASME Y14.5
Ability to design sheet metal enclosures to industry standards.
Ability to create and route wire harnesses
Ability to perform tolerance analysis on multiple component stack-ups.
Ability to plan and organize the complete drawing package for a design project.
Ability to check materials and components selected against design requirements
