Propulsion Lead Production Engineer

Description:
Seeking an experienced and qualified Propulsion Lead Production Engineer with experience in composite production. The first task of this role will be to help establish the manufacturing process flow and documentation for building composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs). The engineer in this position will help define what production equipment, tools, systems, and materials will be required in order to create an efficient, organized, and lean factory. After production operations begin, the engineer will support development work of the COPVs and work on process improvement and production optimization using lean processes and tools.
• Lead a technical team of engineers, technicians, vendors, and subcontractors while performing systems analysis to double-check existing work, and design and generate drawings for machines, tooling, fixtures, and products
• Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes on factory floor
• Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
• Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
• Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
• Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
• Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
• Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
• Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential
Required:
• Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends when needed
• Must be able to stand for extended periods – 8 hours min
• Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in tight spaces
• Physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted)
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a concentration in a relevant Engineering discipline plus 7 years on the job experience
• 7+ years of role related experience may be substituted for formal education
• Lead experience of high-performance teams including engineers and production technicians
• Experience with composite fabrication and assembly processes
• Experience with COPVs and high pressure fluid systems a plus
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
• Ability to interact with all levels of the organization
• Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
• Strong team player
• Excellent computer skills, word, excel and PowerPoint
• CAD experience (Solidworks or Catia V5 preferred, but any CAD experience acceptable)
• Ability to read, interpret and create engineering drawings
• Experience with manufacturing based ERP systems a plus
• Knowledge of GD&T a plus
