Job Title: NX Mechanical Design Engineer IV / Propulsion

• Perform and support mechanical design activities for high speed propulsion components and assemblies from concept through final detailed design. This position requires the development of design concepts, 3D models, and support the development of detailed drawings for the manufacture of parts. Activity requires key interactions with component analysis, manufacturing, project engineering, quality and customer support groups.
• Develop design layouts, GD&T application, tolerance analysis, systems design and integration, fabrication process identification, and synthesis of higher level reqmts to component level reqmts. Conduct trade studies and develop schedules, test plans, component specifications and procedures as reqd. Applicant must have prior aerospace design or development experience associated with design of actively cooled structures operating in high heat flux environments.
• Under general direction, performs engineering design assignments requiring a wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines.
• Perform propulsion system to airframe and test article to test facility integration.
• Provides imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions to a wide range of technical design problems.
• Performs design calculations to validate design requirements.
• Provides data in support of contract data requirements list (CDRL) submittals.
• Participates in preliminary and critical design reviews, drawing reviews, recommending changes as necessary.
• Participates as a member of a project team.
• Responsible for escalating in a timely manner when commitment dates of assigned and individual work cannot be met.
• Check engineering drawings, design packages and related data for compliance to contractual requirements, accuracy, completeness and geometric tolerance standards.
• Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
• Inter-organizational and resident customer contacts are frequent while outside customer contacts are occasional in providing solutions to technical problems associated with specific assignment.
Skills: • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), the ability to read and interpret drawings and related specifications is required.
• Understanding of appropriate codes, regulations and specifications as well as applicable customer requirements.
• Prior propulsion to airframe and test facility integration experience desired.
• Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD – Siemens NX preferred) and Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM) methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of design practices, manufacturing techniques and inspection requirements. May require the use of various computer systems to produce data, analysis and reports.
• Position requires experience using CAD database management tools (WindChill preferred).
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills and must be able to operate effectively in a team environment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is required (MS Word, MS Powerpoint).
• Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and inspection requirements is a plus.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline and nine years of related technical experience as engineering designer or equivalent combination of education and experience.
