Mechanical Design Engineer

Description:
Seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Ayer, MA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design prototype products including special molds, jigs and fixtures necessary for shop production and Quality Assurance inspection.
Design composite and aluminum space frame shell structures using Autocad and/or Solid Works Perform structural (finite element) analyses geometry using custom software.
Generate detailed geometry designs for radomes.
Prepare cost estimates and participate in design reviews.
Provide technical assistance, as required, to other departments including Marketing and Manufacturing.
Assist in the preparation of manufacturing process specifications, test procedures and installation manuals.
Evaluate new products, materials, manufacturing processes and vendor Capability, and recommend substitutions to minimize inventory.
Perform continual value engineering to improve products.
Continually evaluate product integrity.
Submit reports to management, as required.
Coordinate Department requirements for WDS System with MIS.
Review contract specifications and work authorizations to ensure compliance.
Prepare program schedules and software items required on a contract.
Review customer radome/antenna interface.
Provide technical inputs to drafting.
Review drawings prior to release.
Evaluate purchase requisitions, as specified Ensure that all documentation is complete and thorough Act as liaison with Manufacturing and Materials to minimize inventory.
Performs other duties as requested by the Product Line Manager.


Education/Experience/Licenses etc.:
Education and / or Experience:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design or related field required. Masters degree highly desirable.
Five Years minimum mechanical design experience required. Direct radome and reflector related design experience preferred.
Experience designing and analyzing ground-based composite and metal space frame radomes. Experience designing and analyzing shipboard and airborne radomes highly desirable.
Experience designing and analyzing precision reflectors is needed.
Experience designing, inspecting and profiling composite molds is essential.
Experience with composite materials, resins and determining cure cycles is essential.
Extensive experience with Solidworks or Inventor, AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault or PDM Works. Experience with large and complex CAD models is required. Preference given to Inventor modeling experience.
Experience in structural analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is needed. Experience conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis highly desirable.
Must have a firm grasp of documents and revision control. Experience with Autodesk Vault preferred.
Excellent computer skills, particularly understanding of Window interface, navigating a network, file organization, making back-ups, email literacy, Excel and spreadsheet literacy.
Understanding of Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) systems required. Understanding of Visual operating system highly desirable.
