Title: Model Maker - Level 3 Work Location: Orlando, FL
Job Description: Designs and fabricates tools and parts in metals and plastics through machining and heat-treating operations. Works from blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions using math and basic computer skills. Maintains model shop machinery. May enter data from blueprints or databases into CAD/CAM system, generate numerical control program, and transmits program to machining center. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds; measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining; fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required. May modify numerically controlled programs on numerically controlled (NC) machines. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
Mandatory Skills: Primary duty will be assembly of mechanical hardware. Typical assembly tasks include adhesion bonding and installation of threaded inserts, pins, bushings, nutplates, and rivets. Duties will also consist of the manufacturing of sheetmetal & machined products through the use of power shear, power brake, power roll, CNC punch, manual mill, lathe and small tools. Use of various hand tools such as torque wrenches, hand-taps, pneumatic riveters and measuring instruments. Must be able to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) from blueprints and work to military and aerospace specifications. Must have ability to work 1st or 2nd shift.
Desired Skills: Technically trained with an extensive sheet metal manufacturing background.
