EH&S Manager

Description:
Our client in Orangeburg, SC is seeking an Employee, Health and Safety Manager.
The EH&S Manager is responsible for leading and directing the implementation and maintenance of comprehensive environmental, health and safety compliance systems. The EHS Manager will play a critical role in driving initiatives for the business by implementing EHS improvements and sustaining positive EHS standards.

In this role you would:
Supervise all EHS activities for the rapidly growing site (2 facilities, over 250 employees)

Responsible for safety plans, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with local, State, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations

Maintains a system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting serious safety problems

Implements training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices, promote safety consciousness, ensure environmental compliance and advance continuous environmental improvement

Develops appropriate guidelines to ensure legal compliance and formulates recommendations for implementing applicable best practices consistent with the company’s strategic safety  and environmental objectives

Conduct training for new-hires, existing employees and contractors performing work on company property to assure regulatory compliance and knowledge

Conduct job hazard analyses and time studies to expose potential hazards and risks, unsafe acts or conditions

Participate in post-accident investigations and corrective actions

Develop emergency action plans

Evaluate jobs, work stations, cells for appropriate ergonomic and safety issues

Assist in light duty restriction accommodation analyses

Ensure reporting of workers compensation claims to insurer.  Partner with insurer and Human Resources to effectively manage claims

Ensure Environmental compliance of operations processes

Support continuous improvement activity

Other duties as assigned

SAFETY – Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations and product quality standards issued by OSHA, EPA, and other federal, state and local regulatory agencies.

QUALITY – Maintains commitment to quality performance in all aspects of every task or project performed.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in safety/environmental, engineering, or related field experience preferred

5+ years EHS experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

10 years EHS

Experience managing waste water, air, and waste regulatory permits and requirements

Strong ability to influence and lead associates, operations support, administrative support and leadership staff

The EHS Manager must also have strong problem solving skills with a very systematic and analytical approach

Ability to communicate with employees at different levels and must be able to deliver effective communications both written and verbal  

Ability to handle conflict effectively. 

Additionally, the EHS Manager must be able to oversee and prioritize multiple demanding projects 

A qualified candidate will have strong business acumen and be successful driving the OPCO’s EHS initiatives

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. May require occasional lifting of 0-20lbs. and the ability to climb, bend, stoop, crouch or kneel in a shop setting. Use of various gauges and measurement tools in investigating issues. Employee may spend extended periods of time in a shop floor environment requiring PPE. Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
