Packaging Engineer (Entry)

PDS Tech Inc. is searching for a Packaging Engineer  in Whippany, NJ

The purpose of the U.S. Package Engineering position is the structural design, development and testing of primary and secondary packaging for products produced at a Contract Manufacturer for distribution in the U.S. market. The engineering associate is responsible for developing packaging structures for product redesigns, bonus packs, and similarly complex projects. The Packaging Operations team is responsible for managing transfer changes in packaging and labeling in a compliant manner consistent with company directives and industry regulations to fully support the supply of products distributed in the U.S. market.


1. Is responsible for working with large amounts of data, cleaning and validating data, managing relationships with multiple CMOs & Suppliers to collect data and is highly detail oriented with an advanced knowledge in Exel; Tableau is a plus. Responsible for creating all component specifications and finished good Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the Product Lifecycle Change Management System (Synaps) and has a detailed technical knowledge of various packaging materials and components.
2. Responsible for adding dimensions and weights into Promat.
3. Contributes to cross-functional project teams and the change management process via review and approval of component drawings specifications, component testing / qualification. Assists with line trials of new/transferring components as needed. Oversees package testing (ex: ship tests). Works independently, seeking guidance as needed.
4. Supports external manufacturing sites as required in package changes as dictated by regulations, manufacturer’s needs, or project team’s direction.
5. Responsible for all package engineering milestones on project timelines for projects assigned. This requires the utilization of key processes and tools (PLM, pallet pattern software, barcode verification, and other activities as covered in relevant SOPs, User Guides)
6. Efficiently integrates Package Engineering project tasks with U.S. Packaging Operations processes such as change management and graphics development, to ensure timely delivery vs. objectives. Utilizes best practices and contributes to and leads process improvements.
7. Manages Complexity: Must be capable of interpreting information to develop a technical solution that effectively meets customer needs and timing. The incumbent works with some direction from senior staff, then execute independently. Responsible for cost, quality, and timely delivery of assigned work.
