Mechanical Engineer

Description:
From the Hiring Manager:

*** Looking for a Mechanical Engineer who has prior hands-on mechanical design experience along with the working knowledge / understanding of the assembly / fabrication process
*** This position is an open-ended position (12+ months to perm) working on multiple contracts extended over the next 3 years (36 months).
*** SolidWorks is a must; should have Production / Manufacturing experience working for government customers (Defense, Military, etc) and not someone with all Aerospace experience
*** Although this position is labeled as a “contract position”, he’s looking for someone who wants to further their career and grow with an established industry leading company. You will be hired to work on several projects / prime contracts, which gives this position stability & job security for the next 3+ years.

Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will assist in the creation of proposals for technical solutions to government customer solicitations by researching, brainstorming and developing new mechanical design solutions. The projects will require solutions that ensure functionality, quality, reliability, cost and manufacturing capability for a range of specifications. The Mechanical Engineer will create and maintain the project specifications and develop the design and other aspects of the project plan including schedule, resources and costs.

Responsibilities:

> Design and analyses of technical development projects, mechanical systems with multiple moving parts
> Defining project specs and project plans
> Working with manufacturing processes/systems and the ability to translate this knowledge into design direction for new designs and existing product improvements
> Independently create structural analyses of machinery and small scale architectural assemblies
> Work with structural analysis tools, both manual calculations and automated software approaches (FEAs)
> Work with weldments and/or welded structures
> Exhibit fluency in parts/assemblies
> Exhibit an understanding of, and experience with, MIL-STD-810 environmental requirements and resulting design issues
> Product validation and durability testing
> Initiate and lead cross functional team meetings and design reviews to complete mechanical design (concept through launch)
> Apply DFM/DFA principles to the mechanical design and creating multiple concepts, thoroughly evaluating each, and presenting them for design reviews by peers.

Requirements:

> Bachelors/Masters in Mechanical Engineering & 5–10+ years in mechanical project engineering experience
> Proficient in Solid Works, and ASME Y14.100
> Experience with R & D for government customers preferred
