Duties:
** Candidates must be U.S. Citizens **

** Permanent residents are NOT eligible for this role **

** Dual citizens are NOT eligible for this role. Also, candidates with a current non-U.S. passport in addition to a U.S. passport are NOT acceptable **

There are 11 openings. They want to see Level 3; Level 4; and Level 5 candidates.

** Candidates must have Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience. Knowledge/skills with Combustion or Rotaring Machinery is desirable **

-Work with Aero Thermal Fluids (ATF) Lead engineers and other senior engineers in a team setting to accomplish defined Program and ATF Discipline goals.

-As a member of the engineering staff, work with ATF Lead personnel, or be the Lead person to conduct fluid dynamic analyses related to the design, test and verification of liquid rocket engines (LREs).

-Specific job assignments may entail analytic modeling using Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) codes or legacy tools, defining fluid boundary conditions and conducting computer simulations to assess the fluid dynamic response and performance of engine components and systems.

-The fluid dynamic analysis may be for combustion devices such as main combustion chambers and preburners, injector elements, propellant feed systems, and/or rotating machinery components and syatems such as turbopumps for LREs.

-Additional responsibilities will include pre- and post-test analysis including data analysis of test results.

-Further requirements include documentation of approaches, methodologies, analyses, and test reports.

80% - Conduct aerothermodynamics analysis of propulsion system components, linking aerodynamics, combustion, and heat transfer with the mechanical design of the components. Apply established analysis approaches and carry out analyses of these components using a range of 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D analysis tools.

15% - Design and support verification tests of propulsion systems and components (may be offsite). Conduct pre- and post-test data analysis to validate and refine, the analyses to better correlate with test data. Perform instrumentation planning, propulsion systems test support, and engine test data reduction. Participate in team meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, peer reviews and problem solving meetings.

5% - Produce written work summaries and briefings for peer and management reviews. Present analysis results to internal and external customers. Using best practices, document all work and prepare reports as needed.

Skills:
Required:

-Strong analytical skills, from 1-D analysis to 2-D and 3-D analyses using CFD codes available commercially or as openware, such as Ansys Fluent, CFX, Loci-Stream/Chem, and others with similar capabilities.

-Good understanding of steady and unsteady flows in LREs and how to carry out CFD analyses for such flows.

-Proficient in pre- and post-processing of CFD results and re-casting the results into engineering formats that can be used for design purposes for various programs.

-Some experience with testing of LREs, or their components, test data anlysis, and test planning and testing in hotfire facilities or water flow facilities.

-Minimum 3 years experience using such tools or relevant experience.

Desired:

-Good background in either combustion aerodynamics of combustion chambers, preburners, gas generators for LREs, rotating machinery like turbines, pumps, impellers, and inducers for LREs, and associated subsystems of rocket engines. And,

-Familiarity with CFD algorithms and solvers, and integration of chemical kinetics into flow solvers for combusting flows. Knowledge of combustion instabilities in LREs. Or,

-Familiarity with rotating machinery fluid dynamics and unsteady fluid dynamics that is required for modal analysis of rotating machinery structures.

-Advanced degree highly desirable. M.S. or Ph.D.

Keywords:

-Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), aerothermodynamics, combustion aerodynamics, turbine aerodynamics, pump hydrodynamics, turbopump design

Education:
