Accounting Clerk

Chipton-Ross is seeking an Accounting Clerk for an opening in Hilton Head, SC.

Responsible for supporting all accounting related functions, which may include but not limited to: 1) special projects for SOX controls, ERP implementation, and policy creation or adoption; 2) payroll activities, preparing biweekly payrolls, payroll journal entries and preparation of payroll related schedules; 3) account payables, invoicing and receivables, research of payment issues, customer follow-up on cash collection; 4) general ledger entries and validation, audit and reconciliation of accounts; and 5) travel coordination and enforcement of travel procedures in accordance with anti-bribery regulations and Client policy. Assist and backup administrative duties.
•Special projects as assigned.
•Performs audits and reports for corporate.
•Assist with SOX controls for all Accounting functions.
•Verifies vendor invoices and ensures timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices.
•Investigates discrepancies where vendor invoices do not match purchase order amount.
•Responds promptly and professionally to internal and external inquiries regarding supplier invoices paid or unpaid.
•Reconciles A/P accounts assigned and maintains applicable files.
•Knowledge of payroll practices, IRS and State regulations, including tax, garnishment, and wage and hour laws.
•Posts labor transactions and prepares journal entry for payroll.
•Processes employee maintenance information into payroll system, such as pay rate and deduction controls for employees.
•Follows all labor charging procedures.
•Balance total paid hours prior to payroll processing.
•Prepare labor corrections for employees in a timely manner to allow processing in accordance with closing requirements.
•Prepare and post journal entries to record net pay, federal and FICA tax withholding and state tax withholdings.
•Analyzes, audits, reconciles and resolves complex payroll processing and employee payroll issues to ensure smooth payroll processing.
•Ensures payroll reporting and payments are compliant with company policy, generally accepted accounting principles, and federal, state and IRS regulations.
•Researches and interprets federal and state regulatory requirements and resolves tax, withholding, garnishment, and wage/hour issues for payroll processing.
•Clerical and administrative duties, including answering phones, screening calls, and documentation scanning.
•Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels within the organization.

•Advanced usage of MS Excel, and ability to adapt to new software systems
•Prioritization of requirements independently
•Meeting required SOX control reporting and testing on a quarterly basis
•Professional demeanor in handling customer and vendor interactions for payment status
•Required Knowledge: Understanding of and experience with SOX; Payroll experience preferred
•Experience Required: Minimum 1 to 5 years of Accounting experience; Micronetics and/or Costpoint experience a plus.

Accredited High School Diploma/GED; Associates Degree or Equivalent Experience; Bachelors Degree preferred
