Safety Support Engineer

Description:
Product Safety Support Engineer
COPS Management (required):
Work with Propulsion Systems Product Safety Manager (PSM) to understand and pro-actively manage the propeller product line entries into the Control of Process and Safety (COPS) database.
* Review Product Safety Review Board (PSRB) approved COPS inputs, enter into COPS tool and track / facilitate through release process.
* Examine engineering drawings prior to release to ensure alignment between proposed drawing changes and PSRB approved drawing mark-ups.
* Provide targeted COPS searches and extracts on request.

PSRB / PSI support (required):
* Assist with finalizing meeting minutes, coordinating drafting with contractor and final review and approval with the Product Safety Manager Check and update potential safety issue (PSI) and AI databases in coordination with Propulsion Systems PSRB minutes drafting and finalization.
* Perform database queries to support issue management decisions at PSRB and requests from presenters.
* Guide engineers in developing required documentation for safety part approval at the PSRB using product safety management processes and standard work.

RRCA Team support (additional potential tasks):
* Assist in coordination of root cause corrective analysis project by task planning, AI tracking and management, and fault tree development.
Safety Risk Analysis (additional potential tasks):
* Support ongoing needs for Continued Airworthiness Assessment Methodology (CAAM) statistically-based analyses to inform the Propulsions Systems PSRB and the Collins PSB in potential safety issue management decisions for Propellers issues
* Work with investigation teams to identify information required for generating risk models for potential safety issues
* Construct models to assess risk using Continued Airworthiness Assessment Methodology (Ref. FAA AC39.8)-consistent techniques for unaddressed / uncorrected issues and to evaluate effectiveness of possible Corrective Action Plans
* Research historical data to support severity hazard ratio development
* Work with statistician to resolve modeling issues
* Develop and interpret the models and perform peer reviews to ensure the highest possible analysis integrity.
Education:
BS Engineering or equivalent
Required Experience / Qualifications:
BS degree with 2+ years experience in industrial or aerospace engineering environment
Excel and database processes and management
Engineering drawing notations and familiarity
Additional Beneficial Experience:
Engineering change control processes
Critical characteristic identification and management
Basic statistics and risk analysis
Ability to use Minitab tool for Weibull analysis
Systems engineering / reliability engineering
Additional Comments:
A desire to understand the relationship of how propeller hardware manufacture and servicing is controlled to ensure the safety of our customers and the flying public is essential.
Some experience with Aerospace systems / operation understanding is desirable.
Experience with fault tree, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and Failure Hazard Analysis methods is a plus.
