Flight Loads Engineer

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Responsible for determination of flight loads and ground loads to ensure the aircraft design is structurally sound. Develop documentation to show compliance with structural design maneuvers.



Job Responsibilities:

• Define and validate aircraft flight and ground loads through simulation and flight test data analysis of AW609 tiltrotor structural design maneuvers. Utilize knowledge of aeromechanics to ensure analysis and results can be used to show compliance with certification rules.


• Modify flight simulation script files to improve efficiency, ensure simulated maneuvers are compliant with regulations, and produce sensitivity studies of various aircraft configurations.


• Deliverables include flight simulation time history data, well commented scripts (python, pearl, bash), recommendation and conclusions of analysis conducted.


• Support activities and requests from the FAA related to flight loads analysis and methodology.


• Provide support analysis for activities lead by Aeromechanics disciplines (Aerodynamics, Handling Qualities, Structural Dynamics, Rotor Dynamics), Flight Controls, and Flight Test teams.


Qualifications:


• Must be a US Person (Citizen or Green card) to operate ITAR controlled flight simulation software


• BS degree in Engineering; MS degree Aeronautical Engineering preferred


• 5+ years’ experience in a technical leadership capacity related to aircraft aeromechanics, aerodynamics, guidance navigation and controls (GNC), experimental flight test, flight loads definition/validation, flight simulation, handling qualities, or flying qualities.


• Experience with scripting languages such as Pearl, Python, Matlab, Octave


• Experience developing structural design criteria and/or performing flight and ground loads testing, simulation, and analysis


• Strong analytical skills. Ability to understand complex systems and aircraft flight characteristics.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, identify solutions in the presence of conflict and ambiguity
