Automation Engineer

Description:
JOB SUMMARY:

The Automation Engineer will report to the Maintenance and Facilities Engineering Manager. This position provides technical engineering services with some product management to support Maintenance and Production. This position will collaborate with Maintenance Supervisors, Maintenance Team Leads, Facilities Engineers, and various other departments to execute on planned jobs, unplanned jobs, equipment reliability, and capital project improvements.



Essential Functions:

This is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and is not all inclusive. Incumbent(s) may and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

Focus on overall safety of facilities equipment and processes including responsibility and oversight of EHS policies.

Maintains a safe and organized workstation and follows all company policy, safety and procedures.

Manage the electrical and controls scope of process improvement, capital expansion, and obsolescence mitigation projects.

Coordinate all phases of assigned projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, related bid meetings, equipment and facilities engineering/design, manufacturing, and installation through final start-up, acceptance and project closure.

Assist production and maintenance with various types of equipment and process issues from an

engineering perspective with key emphasis on maintaining and improving reliability of systems with specialized technical expertise in the application and use of automated technology for plant facilities and processes.

Provide a higher-level support for all PLC, HMI, and Robotic Systems.

Programming support for all PLC/Scada/Database Systems.

Maintain accurate records for all automation programs and all changes to these systems.

Propose and execute improvements to existing automation systems and processes.

Oversee contractor work and compliance to CLIENT, Federal/State Environmental, Health, and Safety policies.

All equipment status and any other Maintenance issues.

General knowledge of networking principles.

Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Production and Processing Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Operation and Control Controlling operations of equipment or systems.

Operation Monitoring Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Quality Control Analysis Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

Reading Comprehension Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

Critical Thinking Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Speaking Talking to others to convey information effectively.

Troubleshooting Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.

Basic functions of Microsoft Office Suite.

Education Requirements:



Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

Minimum 3 years' experience working with PLC's, HMI's, Database Systems, and electrical systems such as power distribution.

Experience with Project Management in a team-based environment.

Experience with industrial robots in a manufacturing environment.

Experience with Allen Bradley PLC programming, implementation, and troubleshooting.

Must understand PLC network communications.

Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.



Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation/Control Engineering, or Computer Science.

Minimum 5 years' experience working in a Manufacturing Environment in a Controls/Automation position.

Capable of programming Allen Bradley/ControlLogix/RSLogix PLC Systems.

Experience programming various RedLion HMIs.

Experience with programming iFix, FactoryTalk, and Ignition Scada Systems.

Knowledge of standard electrical safety requirements.

Ability to use AutoCAD/Inventor or Solidworks.

Knowledge of Electrical Distribution Systems under 600V.
