Drafter & Prepress Technician

Description:
Job purpose



This is a newly created hybrid role that will play a big part in the future success of our organization. Overarching responsibilities include the creation of detailed panel and elevation drafting including high-resolution graphics along with the preparation of print files from standard and customer supplied art for digital print production.



Duties and responsibilities



Panel and Elevation Drafting

  • Analyze internal request details along with customer supplied details.

  • Work with Inside Sales department to rectify issues with customer-supplied information.

  • Prepare individual panel drawings and elevations in Adobe Illustrator.

  • Create low-resolution FPO images in Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop from standard or customer supplied art files for placement in individual panel drawings and elevations.

  • Ensure all drawings and elevations accurately display the products we intend to make.

  • Verify that all drawings and elevations show only what we can produce.




Preparing High-Resolution Graphics for Production and Archiving


  • Analyze customer supplied art files for correct format and resolution.

  • Work with Inside Sales and Manufacturing departments to ensure all aspects of the job are being considered for timely and correct completion.

  • Prepare full-size high-resolution graphics in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop for production by sizing and scaling appropriately.

  • Monitor job output and ensure color match and consistency to house standards.

  • Document all pertinent settings used for job production to ensure repeatability.

  • Perform archive and file maintenance duties as needed.




Qualifications


  • Proficient in the latest versions of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, preferably on Mac.

  • Advanced skills and knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, 3 years' experience or greater.

  • Prior drafting experience.

  • Ability to work cross-platform Mac and PC.

  • Strong color correction skills in Photoshop.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Digital and/or Commercial Print production experience a plus.

  • Experience with RIP software, specifically Onyx and Wasatch a plus.

  • Familiarity with construction drawings.




Working conditions



Office environment with a typical workday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday – Friday (hours include 1/2 hour lunch break). Occasional after-hours and weekend work may be required.



Physical requirements



Office environment, no physically strenuous activities will be performed.
