Manufacturing Engineer – RS 5

Decatur, AL

• Manage a technical development project over its lifecycle, from initiation through closure. Includes project planning, execution and monitoring, and achieving the objectives of the project to enable project closure.
• As project management specialist, assemble and organize project team, assign responsibilities, identify and obtain appropriate resources (included skilled personnel, tools, facilities and budget) and develop and maintain a schedule to ensure timely completion of the project.
• Charter project by defining system scope, project objectives, and role & function of each team member.
• Coordinate, collaborate, and inform all stakeholders affected by and interested in the project outcome, including end-users, distributors, suppliers and others within the value stream.
• Ensure adherence to quality standards and systems engineering processes, and attainment of project deliverables by managing risks, issues and opportunities identified during planning and execution.
• Conduct After Action Reviews to reflect on project approach and results, and document lessons learned to share.
• Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
• Design arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
• Design sequence of operations and specify procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
• Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
• May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
• Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
• Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
• Guide engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
• Ensure processes and procedures comply with regulations.

• Self-starter, self-motivator, able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Great Communication skills preferred
• Technical background that can work as a project lead/manager of small projects: Lots of smaller projects, some of which may feed into a larger project that someone else is managing.
• Mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing engineering background preferred
• Project and PowerPoint experience required
• Six/Lean Sigma Preferred
• Preferred Aerospace industry experience and/or heavy industry experience such as automotive.
• Preferred MS Office experience, TeamCenter, SAP
• Minimum travel, possibly once a quarter.
*U.S. Citizenship is required by law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.

Education and Experience:
• Requires a bachelor’s degree and 8-12 years of experience
• 2-5 years of project management experience required
• Degree in mechanical, manufacturing or aerospace preferred
