Senior Structural Engineer

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Structural Engineer with a focus on aircraft structures to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, analysis, and optimization of structural components for our unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and unmanned surface vehicles (USV). Your role will involve close collaboration with our engineering team to develop innovative solutions that enhance product performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Analysis: Lead the structural layout, sizing, and detailed design of components.

Collaboration: Work with manufacturing teams to develop fabrication and assembly instructions.

Structural Analysis: Analyze loads on composite laminates, metallic structures, and plastic components using empirical methods, hand calculations, and finite element analysis (FEA).

FEA Tools: Perform static and dynamic structural analyses using FEA tools.

Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders.

Flight Testing: Support planning, execution, and modifications related to flight tests.

Innovation: Develop and implement solutions to address complex structural engineering challenges.

Compliance: Ensure that structural designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Guides & Toolsets: Create design guides and toolsets for use by other engineers.

Additional Duties: Undertake other related tasks as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

Aircraft Load Paths: Strong foundational knowledge of aircraft load paths and structural sizing.

Composite Structures: Expertise in composite structures and their application to aircraft.

FEA Proficiency: Skilled in using FEA tools such as FEMAP or NASTRAN.

CAD Software: Proficient with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA).

Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Communication: Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.

Initiative: Proactive and confident in decision-making.

Education and Certifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred: Master’s degree.

Experience

Structural Engineering: 8+ years of experience in structural engineering.

Aerospace Industry: Proven background in structural analysis and design within the aerospace industry.

Hands-On Design: Practical design and build experience.

Prototyping: Experience with rapid prototyping.

Defense Industry: Experience in the defense sector is advantageous.

Physical Requirements

Sitting & Reaching: Frequent sitting and reaching to use computers and office equipment.

Standing: Occasional standing for extended periods.

Repetitive Movements: Occasional repetitive movements of wrists, hands, and fingers.

Security Clearance

DoD Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret DoD clearance. U.S. Citizenship required.
