The strategic purpose of the Test and Evaluation (T&E) Support Unit is to provide comprehensive, full-service aerospace flight-testing and evaluation services. The Test and Evaluation Support Unit provides four areas of expertise: Test Planning, Instrumentation, Ground Operations and Flight Operations. This position is responsible for maintenance support of all flight operations

Primary Role: Performing routine and periodic maintenance throughout all phases of flight testing; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Secondary Role: Support flight test engineers and ground operations personnel as necessary by helping to install test instrumentation, wiring, and custom manufactured hardware.

Stress Engineer III

Description:
Under the direction of the Engineering manager, supervisor or director, this position will provide stress analysis input to the Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT) to ensure successful product development from conceptual layout stage through release of detail engineering and documentation. This position will coordinate with IPT to identify all design requirements and optimize load paths. The Stress Engineer III will develop and validate efficient stress analysis methodology using classical stress analysis methods and/or computer aided engineering solutions such as finite element models (FEM). Will often direct the work of other Stress Engineers and act as the Project lead. Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Stress Engineer III will rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals while performing a variety of complex tasks in the following areas:
Coordinate with customer to identify all design and stress requirements for a particular product
Evaluate requirements and structural complexity to determine the most effective stress analysis method.
Work with design during conceptual phase to optimize load paths.
Work with IPT throughout joint definition phase to optimize structure for weight, cost, and producbility while maintaining required strength and durability. Continue to optimize structure during release of detailed engineering.
Develop and validate internal loads using classical and finite element (FEM) approaches.

Description:
PURPOSE
Flight test planning, instrumentation checkout, flight test conduct (including real-time monitoring), post test data analysis, and reporting on helicopter flight tests in structures and dynamics.

COMPETENCIES
1. Determining measurement and flight condition requirements necessary to safely provide evaluation, qualification and certification data.
2. Test conduct involves briefing flight and ground crews and real-time telemetry monitoring of critical parameters.
3. Large volumes of gathered flight data are processed and analyzed.
4. Certification and/or qualification tests are summarized in reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering as a minimum
- Candidate must have flight test or aerospace design experience
- Rotary wing experience preferred.

WG-Flight Test Flight Controls/HQ-Grade 04

Description:
PURPOSE
Plan, conduct, manage and report flight control systems and handling qualities flight tests. Test planning function involves determining measurement and flight condition requirements necessary to safely provide evaluation, qualification and certification data. These details are written into published test plans. Test conduct involves briefing flight and ground crews and real-time telemetry monitoring of critical parameters. Large volumes of gathered flight data are processed, analyzed, and reported. These results are written into published test reports.

SKILLS
Work closely with the handling qualities and flight controls design engineers to become familiar with the flight control system hardware components and software, specifically control law design. Quickly identify problems on the test aircraft, troubleshoot the issue, and work with design engineering to implement a solution. Utilize Matlab to analyze flight test data and work with control laws.
Fly on board experimental aircraft to conduct test flights, modify software flight test variables, and collect data.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Master’s degree a plus.

Minimum of 4 years of fixed/rotary wing flight control systems and handling qualities flight test engineering experience. Fly-By-Wire experience preferred. Key skills and knowledge required are: Analytical thinking, troubleshooting, problem solving, and communication--written and oral. Technical writing. Computer skills: Matlab/Simulink, Microsoft Office applications. General aviation knowledge; pilot license is preferred.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
The job involves significant teamwork and coordination with flight test co-workers in a variety of disciplines (pilots, mechanics, inspectors, instrumentation and data technicians), qualification or certification authority representatives and subject matter expert design engineers. The applicant will also team with design engineering by participating in simulation testing. Good interpersonal skills are imperative. Personal flexibility is required to occasionally support unusual working hours.

The applicant will need to work in West Palm Beach, FL for the first four to six months of the assignment in order to become familiar with the aircraft and the test requirements. The applicant will then likely be expected to move to Patuxent River, MD as the program shifts testing to be conducted from there.
