Electrical & Instrumentation Designer - Refinery (OK)

Description:
Basic Purpose/Accountabilities: Responsible for the coordination of all phases of project efforts related to the production of documents associated with the detailing of an assigned project undertaken by the Refinery Technical Services Group.

Works directly with managers, supervisors, and team leads to plan and execute assigned projects.

• Assign design and drafting resources to develop, design, construct, and start up assigned projects.

• Understand, support, and implement the Front End Loading work process and other best practice project execution.

• Participate in and support the PSM group and RTS Engineering by using the best practices/lessons learned.
• Assist in identifying cost savings for project designs and or the Evergreen Systems.

• Participate in training opportunities.
• Network with peers internally and externally to share best practice information.
• Be a resource for training and developing Designers in order to support and enhance their work and progress.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Designers.

Job Description / Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Engineer will produce moderately-complex technical designs and some analysis mechanical / structural modifications to new and existing facility related systems in support of ULA Atlas V, Delta IV and future Vulcan Launch Operations at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Florida. The successful candidate, as part of ULA’s Engineering and Infrastructure Team, shall be required to produce accurate and detailed design drawings as well as generate validating stress analysis calculations. He/she will gather information, perform field walk-downs, and create or revise electronic CAD files. Projects typically involve implementations being performed by external Contractors, in accordance with construction documents. Project support will also include generation of Statement of Work, Contractor contract documents for schedule integration, fabrication and installation phases. The successful candidate will be required to coordinate multiple construction activities and project schedules around launch activities. The candidate shall possess and apply knowledge and technical expertise to the design, analysis, and maintenance of facility related mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. The successful candidate should have at least 10 years of relevant design and analysis experience in building and/or modifying large industrial facility mechanical systems. The desired experience shall be in the following areas; water piping and plumbing, mechanical hydraulic systems, fire protection systems and light structural design. A smaller percentage of the work will involve the design and analysis of facility HVAC systems and mechanical components of support equipment and facility platform systems.

Skills:
This position requires knowledge of predominantly mechanical design, analysis and drafting practices and a sound practical knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and industry standards. At least 10 years of recent Autodesk AutoCAD experience. He/she shall have analysis experience using STAAD and/or RISA, Femap – NX Nastran and be able to create stress calculations by hand with Excel or MathCAD. Other 3D modeling and design experience in Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Revit or other Building Information Modeling (BIM) software is highly preferred.

Educational and Professional Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. A related discipline degree, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10+ years of professional experience. Professional Engineering registration in the State of Florida is preferred, although not required.
