Job Description:
1. This position is deployed to the Revolutionary Technology Programs (RTP) team to provide technical support for optical, thermal, and plasma experiments.
2. Expected to support team’s performance on projects related to the analysis, design, and testing of optical systems, thermal and plasma physics experiments.
3. The position more generally requires working in a small, fast moving team on concept level analysis, implementation of diagnostics and data acquisition systems, and detailed design and construction of laboratory experiments.
4. Requires use of MATLAB and MS Office software tools to compile data, reduce data, and generate reports.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable.
6. Occasional overtime and odd hours required.
7. Candidate must be able to work in a manufacturing and laboratory environment, including work with Class III and Class IV lasers.
8. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Education/Qualifications:
1. Level 2: BS+4-8 YRS or MS+2-6 YRS
2. Must have education or experience in designing, developing, testing, or analysis of laboratory experiments.
3. Hands-on laboratory experience, especially in the areas of plasma physics, vacuum hardware, spectroscopy, thermal/heater testing, and photovoltaics.
4. Experience in optical system design and testing, including diagnostics (spectroscopy, laser-based techniques).
5. Experience in plasma modeling and simulation.
6. Experience with thermal and structural analysis from first principles.
7. Experience with solid state physics.
8. Coursework in plasma chemistry/non-equilibrium effects.
9. Proficient with analysis tools such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, Zemax, COMSOL, and ANSYS Mechanical.
10. Proficient with CAD software such as CATIA V5.
