Technical Writer

Description:
• Writes and edits technical manuals that include the description, installation, operation, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electromechanical machinery, software, instrumentation, and other equipment.

• Writes and edits specifications, reports, websites, proposals, work instructions, procedures, policies, catalogs, and other documents.

• Organizes material and completes writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.

• Reviews drawings and other technical documents (vendor documents, specifications, etc.) to become familiar with technologies and processes.

• Communicates with engineers and other personnel during the creation and editing of technical documentation.

• Reviews published materials and recommends improvements in various areas such as scope, format, content, and publishing methods.

• Maintains records of work that are orderly and complete.

• Works with photographs, diagrams, charts, and other illustrations.

• Edits material prepared by other personnel.

• Provides work direction and training to other writers or personnel.

• Software: Microsoft Office, CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe FrameMaker, and other software packages as required.

• Hardware: computers, printers, and other office machines.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field (engineering/technical and/or communications-related major). Graduate degree preferred.

• 5 years (minimum) of technical writing experience.

• Experience in working with a variety of technologies. Aerospace industry experience is preferred.
