Title: Aeronautical Engineer

Description

Candidate will be responsible for designing and building a system integration laboratory (SIL). This effort includes design of mechanical and electronic interfaces to support software development, integration and test efforts. Candidate will have hands-on hardware experience and software skills. Candidate will be able to troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues and perform integration and test. Define, develop, analyze and coordinate SIL requirements, allocate requirements and define interfaces between subsystems. Effort also includes flow down of requirements to procurement specifications, and management of vendor selection and vendor performance, including verification of requirements. The candidate will support system/software verification and validation effort and customer reviews during all phases of system development. Description:
Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

Basic Function
An Instrument Project Engineer (IE) is responsible for the design and implementation of process instrumentation from initial conception through field installation. They are responsible for designs that provide the most reliable and cost-effective instrument systems. In addition, the IE provides consulting services to process designers in developing process design specifications, develops operating and training manuals for mechanical and process personnel and participates in training operating personnel.

An IE:
• Writes purchase and construction specifications and writes and performs Factory Acceptance Tests.
• Uses vendor software programs for sizing safety and control valves.
• Specifies, procures, and configures Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and field hardware such as transmitters, controllers, pneumatic and electronic transmission system.
• Utilizes standards and best practices from American Petroleum Institute (API) and International Society of Automation (ISA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to perform the above functions.

Responsibilities.
The Instrument and Controls Engineer may be responsible for:
• Function as project engineer on instrumentation and capital projects and large maintenance projects.
• Taking lead role on Instrumentation and controls capital projects including PLCs.
• Help identify areas where instrumentation/controls can improve plant operations and profitability.
• Developing capital and expense budget requirements related to instrumentation system upgrades, PM/PdM programs, repairs, expansions, etc.
• Serving as a technical resource to properly identify new and existing equipment specifications and proper operating parameters/ranges for instrumentation equipment.
• Overseeing application and interpretation of National Electric Code and other applicable city, state, federal codes and standards (e.g. NPRA, NFPA, API, ISA).
• Interact with Engineering and Construction contractors, both on-site and off-site.
• Leverage the application of instrumentation safety standards, mechanical integrity, design and maintenance.
• Using documentation systems and processes that maintain accurate instrumentation information and drawings.
• Support criticality assessments of the plant's instrumentation equipment.
• Design and evaluate Refinery Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). Perform Safety Integrity Level (SIL) analysis and engineering upgrades of safety instrumented systems.

Basic Required Qualifications.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
• Must have three or more years of instrumentation experience and three or more years of direct experience in a refinery, chemical and/or manufacturing industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge and use of SPI (InTools) database and specifications.
• Proficient in the specification, troubleshooting, maintenance and overhaul of process control values.
• Demonstrated knowledge of PLC's.
• Proficient in MS office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Projects).
• Must be willing and able to perform, comply with the following:
• Wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection).

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide electrical engineering support to Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) programs for military aircraft/weapon systems, including planning, directing, and/or participating in aircraft and laboratory testing. SUMMARY: Develops test procedures and coordinate efforts with other engineering departments to support flight development and qualification programs. Performs mechanical testing of individual components and assemblies to ensure conformance with established specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The duties are not limited to the following description:

1. Creates and coordinates overall test plans and assists in developing test procedures and reports which meet the customer’s program testing requirements.
2. Designs test fixtures and reconfigures test equipment in order to meet program goals.
3. Reads and interprets technical procedures and drawings to determine test objectives, set-up requirements, testing limits, and acceptance criteria.
4. Installs test fixtures and specimens to the test equipment.
5. Operates static and dynamic servo-hydraulic test machines and electro-dynamic shaker systems.
6. Completes paperwork associated with the test procedure, including filing test results either electronically or in a conventional filing system.
7. Reviews and analyzes test data to determine if it meets program requirements.
8. Recommends revisions to test method or work flow to optimize the process while maintaining test integrity in accordance with internal and external customer requirements.
9. Performs new technology research on state-of –the-art test systems and software to determine whether new equipment will provide the Company with a cost or technological advantage.
10. Provides test support and analyzes test fixtures, machines, and data to solve problems on test programs.
11. Performs routine cleaning and servo-hydraulic material test machines and electro-dynamic vibration shakers equipment maintenance. Troubleshoots and resolves issues with test equipment.
12. Prepares, generates and maintains Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts and data in order to monitor the production and testing processes.
13. All other duties as assigned.
14. Responsible for promoting and abiding by the HSE rules and policies.

PRIMARY TOOLS OR EQUIPMENT: Able to set-up and operate servo-hydraulic material test machines and electro-dynamic vibration shakers with both manual and computer controllers. Able to set-up and operate temperature and vacuum environmental chambers. Able to set-up and operate digital and analog meters and displays, spectrum analyzers, plotters, recorders, dial indicators, calculators, various manual and pneumatic hand tools and other equipment and tools typically found in the test lab. Able to use measurement tools such as calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, weigh scales, and machinist scales. Ability to use shop hand tools, pneumatic tools, lifting devices, and cranes.
Use of typical office equipment such as telephones, computers (Microsoft Excel and Word), copiers, printers, fax machines, e-mail, scanners, etc.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Mechanics. Two years test-related experience in the field of Aerospace or Applied Mechanics, one year basic electronics and one year in machine design, or equivalent experience.

Language Skills: Able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing information to customers, clients, and employees.

Problem Solving: Able to apply logic, segregating the facts, make a decision, and carry out task.

Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Windows and word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

Other Teamwork or Skills: Ability to participate as a team member. Knowledge of industry best practice in Configuration Management practices. Have an understanding of software and machine maintenance. Exercise excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
