This position is based at our Space Park campus in Redondo Beach, CA. Duties include VHDL design of ASIC and/or FPGA logic, verification via simulation and emulation (lab testing), synthesis, and timing analysis.

Designs and develops circuits used in electronic devices. device evaluation and characterization, test box design, prototype construction and checkout, and determination of wafer fabrication processes. AKKA is looking for some Data Tech's to join our team in Auburn Hills!

Overview: 
The Test and Validation Department of the ADAS Business Unit NAFTA conducts system level testing of radar and camera sensors in support of product development for North American OEM projects. This includes meeting OEM Customer performance requirements which are verified through on-road vehicle level (L1) data collection and Bench level (L2) verification testing and comparing this performance against defined Customer requirements.
 

Core Responsibilities: 
  • Safely drive Continental vehicles, routinely along a well defined and documented route.
  • Support the Vehicle Test Engineering team by capturing accurate vehicle data during specific vehicle maneuvers needed to support ADAS feature development. 
  • Capture test data during specific vehicle maneuvers and verify system performance against requirements.
  • Provide a written summary to include the vehicle driven, number miles driven, hours driven, and project number supported at a minimum for each test drive.
  • Support the Vehicle Test Technician team with vehicle builds involving the installation of ADAS sensors and data acquisition systems.
  • Build and install wire harnesses assemblies to support vehicle builds.
  • Provide detailed expense reports with all receipts within 1 week of incurring expenses.
  • Provide timesheets within 1 week of work performed.
  • He/she will report to and receive daily guidance and work packages from the ADAS Supervisors and their staff.

 
 
Qualifications:
  • Two year Associates degree in a technical (preferably automotive) related field.
  • 2+ years experience with vehicle level testing.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communications skills.  The candidate must be able to clearly and effectively communicate in English
  • Computer proficiency with basic computer programs including the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and motorcycle endorsement.

Description:
In this position the engineer will design and develop complex electronic hardware systems for aircraft. What You’ll Do:

Support the lead, design and development of specialized test tools and data collection software programs to Verify and validate functional performance of hardware to meet engineering development, regression testing, government witness testing, and independent software tests in compliance with design requirements.

Provide support to Abrams and Stryker production test equipment and product validation
Demonstrate problem solving skills to investigate and expedite corrections to field and production issues
Provide support and maintenance for laboratory conventional and computerized test equipment. At a minimum this includes selection, direction for procurement, configuration activities, and periodic/preventative maintenance, repair, and calibration of test assets on and off sites.
Design electronic circuits, functions, and sub-systems necessary to evaluate and test GDLS products at the sub-system and system level. At a minimum, this includes analog and digital circuits, voltage translation, switching functions, interconnect cables, monitor panels, test boxes, and ensure design include proper grounding and shielding principles to minimize test system and interface effect on test samples.
Provide documentation for designs, processes & procedures.
Participate in design reviews offering constructive criticism to ensure sound designs are implemented, and placement of documents into configuration management system.
 

What You’ll Need:

Highly desirable that the candidates know labview software development for test equipment.
Capable of operating Test Instrumentation, including Oscilloscopes, DMMs, Function Generators, and DAQs, and interpreting measurements.
Experience developing software code, such as Visual Basic, C++, LabVIEW
Experience developing electronic circuits and cables
Experience developing electronic schematic drawings Skilled in troubleshooting electronic circuits Experience developing test code/scripts to control NI Data Acquisition modules is a plus.
Must have good computer skills (email, MS-Office, internet) Able and willing to travel domestically, and internationally
Able and willing to work occasional overtime and/or 2nd-shift to meet deadlines.

- Excellent communication, writing and oral skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of team members including customers and subcontractors
- Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, Power Point and Project
- Experience with Computer Aided Design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Tekla

The Electrical Engineering Test Technician will perform configuration and acceptance testing of complex electronic systems/assemblies, by applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing.

JOB DUTIES:
 
  • Test product, using standard test equipment and procedures, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of test practices and procedures.
  • Personal computer skills required to configure and load software
  • Ability to operate test equipment such as: ohmmeters, digital voltmeters, generators, counters, oscilloscopes, and personal computers.

2. Background/Need
Group 108 works to understand air defense issues, in particular, air vehicle survivability, vulnerability of U.S. Air Force (USAF) aircraft to weapons systems, electronic countermeasures, and air surveillance for homeland defense. The focus is on understanding USAF and threat air defense systems through tests and measurements. Test activities include flight, field, and laboratory testing. We operate three airplanes, all highly instrumented and numerous ground systems as needed for test efforts. We also develop new hardware for testing and prototype systems as well as for instrumenting existing sensors. Group 108 requires for one full time Engineer to support the aircraft structural modification project.
3. Position Scope/Job Functions
Candidate will be responsible for the management of a multi-year transformation of a Gulfstream IV-SP into the next Airborne Sensor Test Bed (ASTB). The project entails major airframe modifications including fuselage and wing strengthening, the integration of under wing / centerline instrumentation pods, nose and tail electromagnetic and optical sensors, a sonobuoy or dropsonde release system and major electrical/data infrastructure. Candidate will participate in overseeing vendors performing the necessary aircraft modifications and ensuring that the work is properly executed, documented and delivered on schedule. Support will also include design and conduct of a flight test program to demonstrate compliance with modifications specifications and to obtain FAA approvals for continued operations. Related work will include establishment of a configuration management program and documentation archive to support the aircraft throughout its life.

The Engineer will be designing mechanisms, rotor hubs, actuators, gear boxes, drive systems, etc. All of the design work will revolve around moving parts and mechanisms. This person must also have lead experience and be comfortable in a lead role.

Seeking an experienced design engineer to take ownership of structural analysis of several key components. This role requires the candidate to thrive in a high paced environment and will have an integral role in advancing the next generation of electrically powered vertical lift aircraft.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Define: Generate conceptual layouts for critical systems. This includes rotor blade retention components, mechanical control systems, electro-mechanical actuators, transmissions, and electric motors/shafting. Define key requirements and take ownership of them through the design life-cycle.
Do: The Mechanical Design Engineer will also take the lead designing a myriad of critical components and primary structure. Areas of focus include propeller systems and blade retention components, transmissions, gears, bearings, actuators, motors/shafts, and other critically important, dynamically loaded structural components. The work outputs will include the relevant design artifacts (specifications, interface drawings, layout drawings, datum files and CAD assemblies, tolerance stack-ups, detailed drawings, etc). The ideal candidate will be highly versed in 3D CAD (Dassault 3DExperience preferred) and will also be responsible for conducting sizing of the components he or she develops. This will require working knowledge of aerospace sizing methodologies and experience running finite element models. In addition, the role will require the mechanical design engineer to support development test efforts (both ground and flight testing).
Intrinsic: The role will require constant flexibility and a level of comfort working in a rapid-prototype environment. The projects and assignments will vary from week to week, so the candidate should ideally have robust experiences to draw from (e.g. aerospace development programs, Motorsport/Formula One) in order to operate effectively in this environment. The role will include interfacing with engineering management, our customers, certification authorities, operations, procurement, external suppliers, and fellow design engineers.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in mechanical/aerospace engineering or a related discipline with at least 5 years of professional experience in aerospace or a related field (i.e. formula one); or master’s degree from an accredited university and at least 3 years of professional experience or equivalent experience/combined education.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude and analytical mindset with a track record of demonstrated success developing actual products in a development environment.
• Highly experienced in 3D CAD and model setup using 3DExperience (preferred), CATIA V5/V6, SolidWorks or similar and generating detailed drawings, which are in accordance with ASME Y14.5-2009 standards.
• Familiar with finite element analytical tools such as Hyper-Mesh pre-processors integrated with Optistruct or Nastran, ANSYS or similar.
• Deep knowledge of common aerospace materials and standard hardware selection is a must. Experience with light weight structures and composites is also highly advantageous.
• Experience designing critical structural components, which have been sized for static strength, stiffness, fatigue, or a combination thereof. Knowledge of kinematics is also desired.
• Experience supporting ground and flight testing of complex systems as well as running sub-scale proof of concept testing such as coupon programs or prototype test rigs.
• Versed in gear and bearing design as well as lubrication systems, and the design of common housing features such as lugs and bolted joints.
• Familiarity with component and sub-system FAA certification testing is a plus.
• Past experience as a design supervisor, or leading a team and/or mentoring others, formally or informally is an advantage.

This position is responsible to conduct and perform engineering research and development work on assigned projects, either individually or as a team participant.  This is an exempt position that may require in excess of a 40-hour week in order to effectively carry out the listed job duties.  Occasional travel required.

Senior Aerodynamicist

Description:
This role requires the candidate to thrive in a high paced environment and will have an integral role in advancing the next generation of electrically powered vertical lift aircraft.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Define: Develop a highly efficient vehicle design through aerodynamic analysis that is aligned with industry best-practices. This role will have a major role in running all aerodynamic analysis and guiding the design through optimization to produce a compelling end solution.
Do: This job will be a mix of developing the in-house analysis capabilities of the company, as well as performing as an individual contributor. The aerodynamicist will take the lead analyzing a myriad of external geometries and control surfaces. Areas of focus include blades, wings and fuselage. The core output will be high quality CFD solutions and the resulting CAD surface definitions that can be delivered to the design team to produce Class-A surfaces. Star-CCM and similar CFD tools will be used in support of the design. The aerodynamicist will leverage these to the fullest extent possible to produce valid, high integrity outputs. It is also desired for the candidate to automate these tools to iterate design permutations in a very rapid manner. Therefore, some limited experience with scripting tools such as Matlab, C++, and Python as well as general familiarity with high power computing clusters to manage the job queues will be needed. In certain instances, coupled solution may be required, which would entail working knowledge of structural dynamics and control theory in addition to an expert understanding of the aerodynamic discipline. In addition, it will be necessary for the aerodynamicist to generate custom lifting line tools or similar to help assist in preliminary sizing and basic conceptual development.
Intrinsic: The role will require constant flexibility and a level of comfort working in a rapid-prototype environment. The projects and assignments will vary from week to week, so the candidate should ideally have robust experiences to draw from (e.g. aerospace development programs, Motorsport/Formula One) in order to operate effectively in this environment. The role will include interfacing with engineering management, our customers, certification authorities, operations, procurement, external suppliers, and fellow design engineers.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from an accredited university in Aeronautical, Aerospace engineering, or a related discipline with at least 5 years of professional experience in aerospace or a related field (i.e. Formula One); or PhD and 3 years of equivalent experience/combined education. Prior rotorcraft development experience is a plus.
• Excellent analysis skills and a track record of demonstrated success analyzing actual products.
• Highly experienced in computational fluid dynamics tools such as Star-CCM (preferred), Overflow and ANSYS-Fluent or similar.
• Proficient in 3D CAD surface definition via 3DExperience generative shape design (preferred), CATIA V5/V6, SolidWorks, or similar is also ideal.

Senior Electrical Engineer, Spacecraft Command & Data Handling



This leadership position is for a highly-experienced electrical engineer who can lead the Command & Data Handling (CDH) subsystem team to define requirements, develop the architecture, implement the design, and verify the subsystem for a spacecraft.



What You’ll Do



  • CDH technical lead - This position is 70% technical and 30% management.
  • Work daily with the larger CDH team on technical definition, implementation, and verification.
  • Establish strong working relationships with system engineering team, integration and test team, and peers for the other spacecraft subsystems.
  • Prepare and manage subsystem architecture and interfaces.  A strong hardware backgrounds is required.
  • Generate verification and validation plans, and work with Integration and Test team to ensure the subsystem meets requirements.
  • Present architecture, implementation, and verification to customer.
  • Collaborate with the spacecraft system engineers on technology insertion into new bus architectures.
  • Extensive technical writing (Proposal development, Contractual elements, procedural definitions, specifications, interfaces, analysis support and description documents).
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers, management and customers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company.  Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.


What You’ll Need



  • BS or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years of related experience. 
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Current Top Secret/SCI security clearance required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of direct experience in electronics or avionics subsystem design or test.
  • A solid understanding of all aspects of requirements definition, decomposition, and flow-down, architectural trade studies, architectural and interface definition, hardware specifications, interface control, analyses, and verification.
  • Knowledge of electronics designed for EMI/EMC/ESD compliance.
  • Proven expertise in subcontract management.
  • Extensive experience with defining, developing and delivering space qualified hardware.
  • Intellectual curiosity combined with a strong desire to learn.
  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Effective in multidisciplinary large team work environment with broad responsibilities and minimal oversight.


Working Conditions



  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or clean room, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
  • Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

What You’ll Do:

Perform project tasks/assignments of a more complex nature ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies such as modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables.
Read and interpret basic schematics and drawings, as well as follows methods, techniques, and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, and cable harnessing on subassemblies and units.
Integrate sub-assemblies into final hardware, perform final assembly of small systems, perform basic electrical tests and perform more complex rework and refurbishment of hardware and systems.
