Sr. Mechanical Designer Description:
Our client located in the greater Boston, MA area, needs a Sr. Mechanical Designer to provide design and drafting support to development, detailed design, build and test of innovative sensor products that operate in extreme environments. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in generating creative concepts, supporting iterative trade studies, and meeting program budget and schedule objectives.
*This position is a 6-9 + months contractor opportunity*
Sr. Mechanical Designer Responsibilities:
• Create innovative and practical opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical designs and documentation packages.
• Work closely with members of the program team to achieve hardware design, build and test objectives.
• Track, understand and flow down design and schedule requirements and apply sound design principles and oversight to meet project requirements.
• Develop clean documentation packages and design records which includes maintaining revision control.
Sr. Mechanical Designer required Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred, not required
• 8+ years designing electronics packaging with Solidworks, PDM, and GD&T
• Design experience packaging and documenting products containing optical elements, electronics and structures for space and airborne environments.
• High proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD, data management tools and techniques, and revision control practices.
• Ability to assess and apply geometric tolerances in complex and precision hardware assemblies.
• Ability to research data that is required to develop designs using historical precedents, manufacturer's catalogues, and technical guides. Successfully combines findings with preliminary information to contribute to developing final designs.
• Good communication and organizational skills. Sound interpersonal skills that enable interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with company personnel, customers and suppliers.
• High creativity and ability to achieve lean, efficient, low cost, easy to assemble design solutions.
• Experience in hardware design for severe shock, vibration and thermal environments preferred, not required.
