Mechanical Design Engineer

Description:
Duties:
1. Researches, plans, design and develops products and systems.
2. Applies knowledge and research to design, development, and testing of mechanical elements including conceptualization of designs to meet requirements, CAD modeling, detail design, drawings, and required support of the designs through the change management process.
3. Ensures technical rigor to meet required quality levels and compliance with customer and industry standards to meet mission requirements and successfully produce affordable designs.
4. Oversees installation, testing and operation of designs.
5. May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions or operational issues.
6. Primary duty involves assessment of heritage support equipment designs/drawings to detect parts, mil spec and drawing notes obsolescence issues, along with any design anomalies, and then generating the design/drawing updates.
7. An Electromechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, documentation and production floor support of hardware (missile electronics, missile electrical cabling, airborne support equipment, ground support equipment and test sets.
8. Additional duties include investigation of discrepant hardware and test anomalies.

Knowledge of:
1. Pertinent codes, rules, and regulations related to mechanical engineering.
2. Use of analytical, design or process procedures pertinent to the particular field of engineering.
3. Engineering theory and practice relating to design and evaluation of devices or systems.
4. Safety regulations, principles, and practices of work safety.
5. Design or process procedures in the field of mechanical engineering.
6. Engineering test equipment, CAD, and various computer systems.

Ability to:
1. Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
2. Contribute to multi-disciplinary technical team through design development activity.
3. Read and interpret technical drawings, and specifications.
4. Perform technical research work and make detailed analyses.
5. Analyze engineering problems and adopt effective courses of action.
6. Use various computer systems, engineering test equipment, various office and engineering software applications, and/or CAD.
7. Operate effectively in a team environment.
8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Skills:
Required:
1. Proficiency with Creo 2.0 CAD with experience in parts, assemblies, and drawings.
2. Simplified representations.
3. Automated bill of material repeat regions.
4. Proficiency with ASME Y14.5M-1994 and generating detailed engineering drawings.
5. Proficiency in general machined part design, sheet metal design and weldments.
6. Experience with aerospace fasteners (e.g. NAS hardware).
7. Basic computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel).
8. Ability to create presentation materials to convey relevant design information..
9. Compliance to quality and safety policies at all times.
10. Must be a US Citizen.
11. Physical Requirements ? This work requires delicate handling, reaching, light lifting and may require a combination of sitting and standing as well as walking between test locations and occasional use of small step-ladders.

Education:
1. Must have at minimum a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering related discipline.
