Job Description



Position Purpose/Objective:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be working in a focused, cross-functional team of engineers developing highly reliable products which meet customer specified requirements/expectations at the lowest competitive cost.  Individual will be responsible for several components of a project or a complex component of a larger project and be expected to be able to work without direct guidance or direction from others.

Primary Responsibilities:

Thoroughly review and understand product specifications, and determine design requirements and scope of work. Perform estimates of effort and duration for tasks.

Work with Systems Engineers on requirements convergence planning.

System level design and architecture.

Generate design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.

Mentor lower level engineers and/or off-site (LCC) engineers.

Perform tolerance analyses on components and assemblies to ensure proper fit/function.

Provide basic stress analysis and free body diagrams of conceptual designs for initial sizing of parts.

Be proficient in CAD solid modeling techniques to prepare component and assembly models.

Coordinate with the Drafting group on preparation of drawings and perform initial engineering drawing check for approval prior to release.

Writing test requests, supporting design verification testing, and coordinating with test department.

Provide necessary engineering support for new hardware fabrication.

Provide MRB support and disposition nonconforming product.

Interface with all other functional groups and departments as required in the development of the product design.

Use department computer technology in an independent and productive manner.

Experience with materials properties/selection and experience with manufacturing processes.    

Drive the usage of appropriate Lean Product Development tools to support cost-effective technical solutions with a focus on platform design, reuse and knowledge-management.



Adhere to all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) as well as International Trade Compliance (ITC) regulation and policy.



BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 5-7+ years of experience.

Current/previous MRB certification preferred, but not required.

Work experience in all aspects of mechanical designs and mechanisms used in Aerospace.

Knowledge of up-to-date manufacturing methods, processes and techniques associated with Aluminum alloy machined parts.

ANSI ASME Y14.5 and others - geometric tolerance and stack-ups

Strong experience with detailed design using solid modeling software Preferred: FAA/EASA certification/regulation experience

Good understanding of structural analysis and able to perform preliminary stress analysis to support initial sizing MRB Disposition
