Boeing acquires US aviation app developer ForeFlight — Boeing has purchased mobile and web-based aviation applications developer ForeFlight for an undisclosed amount. The companies did not disclose the terms of the transaction. Founded in 2007, ForeFlight has been working with Boeing for the past two years to offer Jeppesen’s aeronautical data and charts on ForeFlight’s mobile platforms. Jeppesen offers navigational information, operations planning tools, flight planning products and software. SpaceX’s new Crew Dragon spacecraft docks to ISS — NASA and SpaceX have launched the first flight test of a new spacecraft that has successfully arrived at the International Space Station (ISS). The SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft lifted off on the company’s Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Crew Dragon spacecraft became the first privately designed and operated spacecraft, which is capable of carrying people to visit the outpost. It carried a lifelike test device named Ripley, which is outfitted with sensors to provide data on potential effects on humans traveling in Crew Dragon.Crew Dragon has been designed to stay docked to the station for up to 210 days; it remained there for only six days, departing on March 8. The space vehicle is set to deliver more than 400 pounds of equipment and supplies to the space station. SpaceX plans to launch two astronauts this year under NASA’s commercial crew program. Rolls-Royce pulls out of engine competition for Boeing’s new airplane — Rolls-Royce has announced its withdrawal from the competition to deliver engines to power Boeing’s planned new midsize airplane (NMA). The company cited that it is unable to commit to the proposed timetable to deliver a sufficiently mature product for the aircraft as the reason for its withdrawal. Boeing plans to launch a new midsized airplane to fill a gap between the narrow and wide-body aircraft. The NMA is not expected to be operational until 2025.
